The Wedding of Cui & Yi Chian Part1

This is proof that a long distance relationship is viable and can stand the test of time! Cui and Yi Chian met in the US when they were both university students but had to part ways after they graduated. Yi Chian moved back to Singapore, and Cui lived and worked in New York. Years later, after enduring many long 24 hour flights, Yi Chian popped the question while they were on a hiking holiday to the base camp of Mt Everest in Nepal!

The beach wedding was held in Avillion Resort, Port Dickson. Five of us from the Wedding Story team went down to Port Dickson the night before and met up with Cui & Yi Chian at their family BBQ. Even after 10 minutes of talking, we knew that we could instantly click. They are definitely an adventurous couple!

The next morning, we had an early morning start at 4.30am! When the sun rose, Avillion looked so beautiful…. and so did Cui.

When the guys came over, the girls made them do some really crazy stuff…

20090328_WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN_0229.jpg

Like dancing like a chicken!

20090328_WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN_0297.jpg

Or putting on lipstick for each other…

Some were better than others… guys you need make up lessons!

20090328_WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN_0254.jpg

When Yi Chian finally got to Cui, she could not help but laugh at his fake ‘mole’.

20090328_WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN_0402.jpg

After a short time of tea ceremony with Cui’s parents, we left for a nearby bungalow, where Yi Chian’s family were waiting.

Then there were the serious family portraits…. and also the fun ones!

20090328_WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN_0589.jpg 20090328_WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN_0593.jpg

It was already about 12pm when we drove to a well hidden light house for some portraits. It was my first time there and I absolutely loved it! The only thing was the terrible noon time sun that beat down on us mercilessly. But Cui and Yi Chian didn’t bat an eyelid. They were super gung-ho to do everything I asked them to do.

20090328-WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN-001.jpg

One of the scary things…. like climbing this really steep ladder up to another floor. Cui did it in her high heels ok! And came down the same way! Even with my flat shoes, my knees were a little wobbly!

20090328_WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN_0933.jpg 20090328_WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN_0956.jpg

But it was worth it!

20090328-WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN-002.jpg 20090328-WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN-003.jpg

Finally, we went back to Avillion to shoot some more portraits around the pool side and garden.

20090328_WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN_1011.jpg 20090328_WEDDING_CUI_YICHIAN_1014.jpg

We only had a 2.5 hour break before we had to get back to Avillion for the solemnization ceremony. Through out the ceremony, Sharon Chong was working on the slideshow to be shown during dinner. It was a pretty mad rush but we managed to complete it! Here’s the slideshow that we played that night. Part 2 of the wedding to come soon!

The Wedding of Kelvin & Cathryn

If you talk about unconventional couples, Kelvin and Cathryn definitely fit the bill. Both Kel and PC as they are affectionately known, serve in Eaglepoint church in Puchong. In fact, PC is a pastor and Kel is the worship director in church. Their wedding theme is called “A Story of Grace“, done in a movie style. I love the movie posters that they have created as decorations. The excitement on that day was just incredible. The church was packed and people were standing everywhere. You would have thought that there was a concert going on!

There are way too many photos from their wedding to post here. These are some of my favourites.

The Wedding of Trevor & Rebekah

The last time I visited Langkawi, I was 13 I think. I can’t remember much about the place except that it was really dusty. I suppose when you’re young and on your father’s company trip with a bunch of older folk, you might not enjoy it too much! But a few months back, my cousin Rebekah gave me another opportunity to renew my perception of Langkawi. She sent me an invite to her wedding in the Frangipani Resort, Langkawi! I was pleasantly surprised, since she and her fiance Trevor lives in Perth. I mean, why would anyone come to Malaysia for a wedding, when you have beautiful locations in Australia? :)

The day came, and Alex, my family and I flew over to Langkawi. We had a blast of a time with our cousins. I wasn’t the official photographer at the wedding but was a guest. That was quite nice, though I could not put down my camera during the entire duration of the wedding. I must have been quite a sight, running around in my dress and heels. I am sorry, Affendy, if I got in your way a lot of times! Here are a few shots from the wedding. There are just too many favs, will have to update the rest on Facebook.

It was lovely witnessing your wedding, Trev and Beck.. we all had such a great time. I loved the way you kept it simple and carefree. I must say that this is the first time I see a bride in a short dress! Hope you’ll enjoy these photos!

Kate, Beck’s sister is extremely talented. She was Beck’s make up artist for the day. Now you just have to learn how to do up the hair, Kate!

Doesn’t Rebekah look gorgeous? I know we don’t look at all alike, but we’re cousins, truly! Beck’s mum Helen looks equally gorgeous in the pic above.

It was really dark where the speeches were held. I was just testing out my high ISO settings and did not use a flash at all. Shot with ISO 5000, f1.8 and manual focus!! Really difficult! I didn’t exactly nail the focus on the shot below but I love Rebekah’s expression here.

The Wedding of Bernard & Huay-Sien

I am back again with another post, this time it was for Bernard and Huay-Sien. It was a truly unique wedding and Ian and I had just so much fun shooting. The morning started with the usual preparation before the church ceremony. I love shooting at Huay-Sien’s place, the colour of the walls were so nice and vibrant and I can really think of so many places where I can shoot in the house.

bhs_blog_007

Ian on the other hand was over at Bernard’s place capturing the groom and his family.

bhs_blog_003

The church ceremony was held at St. Peter’s in Bangsar, it was the first time that I had the opportunity to shoot in this beautiful church.

bhs_blog_008

bhs_blog_009

Once the ceremony was over, both Bernard and Huay-Sien were so happy that they just couldn’t stop smiling the whole time!

bhs_blog_011

Right after the church ceremony, we all then headed towards Le Meridien for the wedding luncheon. It is not very often that we get to attend a wedding luncheon instead of the usual wedding dinners.

bhs_blog_012

Bernard’s speech was so hilarious that I just couldn’t stop laughing myself!

bhs_blog_013

Both Bernard and Huay-Sien also requested that we have a portraiture session and I actually did a little scouting of Le Meridien a week before the wedding and found out that the hotel was just beautiful and there are countless of spots where you can capture lovely images. So while Huay-Sien was getting ready for the portraiture session, Ian took this beautiful shot of their wedding bands.

bhs_blog_014

From then onwards, we headed around the entire hotel shooting non-stop. It was great and both Bernard and Huay-Sien were so cooperative. They are so easy to work with and I had loads of fun just joking around and shooting.

bhs_blog_015

While Ian was taking the shot above, I caught a candid shot of Huay-Sien below.

bhs_blog_016

bhs_blog_018

The one thing I really noticed about the hotel was that they had loads of interesting decorations about, like the image below.

bhs_blog_021

Even the lifts were not spared as well!

bhs_blog_022

They even had this interesting corridor linking both Le Meridien and KL Hilton as well.

bhs_blog_024

bhs_blog_025

The lobby area was just awesome!

Trying out various silhouette shots, again ;)

Found a hidden place outside with some interesting leading lines.

I guess after having so much fun, we totally lost track of time. The sun set so fast!

Finally a group shot of all of us at our final location.

And last but not least here is also a shot I sneaked in of Ian while he was trying to pose the lovely couple. Before signing off, I would like to extend my congratulations again to both Bernard and Huay Sien and that the two of you will have a great life ahead!

The Wedding of Dennis & Say Wan

Dennis and Say Wan were my university friends and they got together when they were in university and now it has been my privilege to shoot their wedding. It was totally awesome and fun filled that I was up shooting together with Ian from 7am all the way till about 1am the next day.

Here are some of the photos we took on that day.

The girls were eagerly awaiting for Say Wan to have her make-up done.

Caught this funny expression when Say Wan was trying to tell her MUA about something.

Let the games begin!

The one thing I saw recently, especially after this whole issue which was blown out of proportion, was that yoga has been incorporated into the morning games as well ;)

But nothing could stand in the way of all the guys.

The best part about both Dennis and Say Wan is that they both support Liverpool. I still remember the days back in the UK where we would drive all the way to Anfield in the middle of the night to catch the Champions League matches.

After all the events of the day, we managed to catch a breather before dinner started.

Finally, a shot of the bouquet.

This was an awesome shot taken by Ian of the march in.

The speech by the best man.

The grandness of the ballroom. I always thought that chandeliers were cheesy but I guess it does look spectacular sometimes.

And finally, the couple’s first dance together.

One down and two more weddings to blog about. And yes, this is my first post here :)
