Church Wedding Video Highlights: Ch’ng Toh & Evelyn

“On this date, I will marry my best friend…..the one I laugh with, live for, dream with & love”

On 16 October 2012, he asked me to begin this crazy life together as husband and wife. God beautifully scripted our romance approximately 10 years ago. Ours wasn’t the usual love story. Not love at first sight or fancy romance. Instead it was steadily slow and it gets more beautiful year after year. Dating for 10 years certainly didn’t feel as thou it has been 219,000 minutes!

We met because of fishing! He convinced my all weather friend Lydia to fish at a pond nearby my home. Halfway thru it rained heavily. To seek shelter, she asked him to stop by my home. He stood outside and analyzed the fishes in my pond. He introduced himself and said nothing else. Once my friend got changed, they left. That was our first hello. Frankly, I laughed after he left…what a name!

3 months later, we met at Taylors Subang Jaya. Different streams but same pre-uni programme.  As we had common friends, we had lunches as a group. After class I had to walk home and one day, he offered to take me home via his daily taximan. A woman never hesitates a free ride! (moreover it was hot that day). We started talking on the phone; once a week became twice, twice became every other day.

6 months later….

Ch’ng Toh :     Do I have a girlfriend?

Evelyn :           I think so kua….

(Who on earth asks in this manner?)

And yes, that was 10 years ago….

I furthered my studies in Sydney whilst he stayed here. Thereafter, he came over for 3 years to complete his studies. When we got back, I practiced law whilst he worked with his dad. I switched career paths and joined the retail scene a year back. To date, I’ve left my job and opened a Hong Kong dessert place; Tong Pak Fu at Mid Valley & Paradigm Mall.

We are H.A.P.P.Y! Can’t ask for more and we don’t cling to each other like cling wraps!

His love for fishing has multiplied 10 folds since. He travels just to cast his rod into the ocean, pond and pool. (anything that contains water)

As for me, Scrapbooking is my passion…& whilst in the midst of preparing for my big day, I found a new love for weddings and thus found Moments together with Tricia. The Lord is my rock, shopping is my obsession and I love human interaction.

10 years now and everyday we’re still learning new lessons. Our relationship isn’t perfect. However, despite the idiosyncrasies, we choose to stay in love and take each step and hurdle as it comes along as a steppingstone for us to live the rest of our lives appreciating each other.

He has taught me to love with all my heart and take care of each other. Thou he’s not Mr. Romantic, never given flowers or made anything but he surely makes up for it with every smile, every song, every hug and kiss. He thinks of my in everything that he does. He brings me fishing lures to brighten my day, he calls me a thousand times just to say hello and he stands by me truly in sickness & health. Therefore….

Draw, Pray, Love: The Art-filled Wedding of Ian & Vinn

Ian and Vinn’s wedding was one brimming with creativity. After all, Vinn is a fine art artist, with a degree in film and animation, and Ian himself appreciates art and photography. Vinn DIY-ed almost everything in her wedding. She even painted the huge backdrop at her wedding… 2 large painted canvases combined together to make a beautiful backdrop. Her paint was displayed next to the backdrop, and guests were invited to sign on her pre-painted big canvas guestbook.

The doorgifts were soaps with lemon grass oil that she handmade, and all the photo booth props, invitation cards were also designed by her! (including hand made wedding seals!). Wow, I was so amazed.

Their theme, Draw, Pray, Love with a hint of rustic, vintage feel and french blue, gold, beige and cream colour tones felt so apt for this creative couple. During the dinner, the cast of the SIBKL musical, Everworld did an amazing performance and entertained all the guests. Unfortunately, we could not feature every performance in this highlight as there were way too many of them.

Ian & Vinn, I hope you like this video that Felicia edited… we spent many days in the edit room, deciding what to include and what not to! There were just so much to show from your wedding. But I am sure you’ll have fun reliving the day when you receive the rest of the edited compiled footage from us. Congratulations from the Stories team!

Ian & Vinn’s Story

I met Ian at the age of 19, at a lobby of a building. He was 26. I was by myself, drawing on the couch, when he approached me and started talking to me. I thought, he has a strange British accent, but looks Asian! Anyhow, we had a great chat and before I left, Ian handed me his name card.

Yup I didn’t leave him my contact (I was a little cool towards him!) but I was the one who texted him first, and that’s how our love story began!

We got together speedily on the second date after two months. 8 years of courtship, and now we are married!

Ian is the greatest gift from God and the greatest gift from Ian is bringing me to know God. He is smart, lovely, gentle, kind and romantic (although he denies this) but at least in my heart he is. He always surprises me- from beautiful candlelight dinners (he made me the most delicious tiramisu!) to surprise vacations as a birthday present (I later found out after I boarded the plane! And I thought it was a working trip!).

The proposal happened last year. It was Valentine’s Day, but my father was admitted to hospital so we stayed up late which messed up his plans, so he didn’t get to cook me dinner but we still managed to buy some food and had a candlelight dinner at his house. I couldn’t hold back my tears after i got my ‘Valentine’ gift which was a ring…there’s no one there except the two of us, but I got too excited and I popped the question before he even opened his mouth. HAHA!

We’ve been through so much together… poor or rich, sick or healthy…we had the best times together. Ian definitely knows me better than I know myself. He is not just my mentor and my support, he is my best friend.

Wedding Video Highlight: Alex & Nicole

Love Across the Globe by Nicole

Alex and I met during our internship in KL over summer 2009. Contrary to what you’d expect, we did not hit it off immediately. Subsequently we went back to Australia to complete our final semester in our undergraduate studies. He was studying in Canberra, whereas I was in the Sunshine State. What started with an innocent “Hey, it’s been ages, how have you been?” on Facebook (initiated by me *shy*), led to long hours chatting on MSN.

Little did we know, distance would be a constant factor for us. Alex is from Miri whereas I am a KL girl; and he is now working in the South Pacific. When we were studying in Australia, like any lovestruck kids who dot their i’s with hearts and celebrate an anniversary every month, one of us would commute 595 air miles to be with the other every 10 days or so. In between our fortnightly rendezvous, we constantly wrote to each other. Yes, those were the good ol’ days where “you’ve got mail” was in tangible form.

Alex, well, he’s got a head for numbers, and he’s very analytical. Who on earth keeps an IQ puzzle book by his bed anyways? It comes as no surprise that Alex is always deep in thought and may appear to be reserved. Do ask him, “What’s the probability of the sun rising?” FYI, Alex graduated with an Actuarial degree; his best friends in university were Mathematics, Calculus and Probability. I, on the other hand, am right-brain dominant. You may call me Miss Scatterbrain. I tend to think or shift from one thought to another so fast that I confuse the person I am speaking to. Although that sometimes gets to Alex, I have to give it to him, he reads me like a book. Sometimes, I find the most ordinary and common things to be extraordinarily funny, which really puzzles Alex. But I’d like to think that I enjoy the lighter side of life. Another point in my favour- I am definitely better at reading maps and navigating my way around; Alex would be hopeless without me in that respect!

Despite our difference, Alex and I balance each other out. Alex is the anchor that keeps me on the ground, while I lighten up his heart.

The Wedding Shoot

The videography team from Stories traveled to Miri, Sarawak for Alex and Nicole’s wedding day. It was the first time our team had shot in Miri! The day started bright and early at 6am. What was special about the day were the heartfelt messages that were exchanged between Alex and Nicole on their wedding day, and also the notes on embroidered handkerchiefs that Nicole wrote to her parents. We also love the little details that went into the wedding, like the badges Alex had to wear as he went through the challenges to get his bride.

A blend of cultures: Roy & Pek Yee

It was an epic wedding – full of wonderful moments that will be etched in my mind forever. Roy’s humour brightens the day and keeps us entertained while Pek Yee’s infectious (loud) laughter reminds me of my childhood friends who are equally boisterous. The wedding was split to 2 days… the first half was the Chinese wedding ceremony in KL, followed by a beach wedding at the colonial-looking Danna, Langkawi. Seriously, I consider this a 6-star wedding…not just because of the gorgeous location and beautiful decorations that adorned the venue, but because it had all the elements that made it special – a superb couple that was so easy to click with, really fun guests who made the party happening, and family members who treated us like… family. Most of the decorations were done by Roy and Pek’s friends and family members… amazing flower decorations by Pek’s aunt June and stationery by her friend Hooi Yee.

Through out my stay at The Danna, my team were treated so well by the staff there. I appreciate it that they didn’t see us as merely vendors, and saw to our every need, making sure we had water to drink all the time, made sure we had a decent place to have our meals, brought us cutlery and even offered us home made butter when it wasn’t necessary! Needless to say, the team ate well and slept really really well the night before and after the wedding, which made us really happy campers!

I love it how Roy and Pek Yee blend so easily into each other’s culture. Swiss and Malaysian cultures are worlds apart, yet, they seem so at home with each other, and even speaking a little of each other’s language. Roy’s Mandarin is definitely better than mine, since I am a pure ‘banana’ as how Malaysians would put it (yellow on the outside, white on the inside – someone whose first language is English).

Glam, Glitter and Fast Cars: The Wedding of Nicholas and Lina

20130302_WEDDING_NICHOLAS_LINA_0383

From their pre-wedding shoot in Krabi, Thailand to the beautiful garden ROM at Carcosa Seri Negara and now, to their actual wedding day, Nicholas and Lina’s wedding celebrations are full of epic moments. I am not really a car person, but my jaw did drop when I was told that the wedding vehicle entourage would consist of some superbikes, Maseratis, Porsches, Bentleys, Ferraris, and a Rolls-Royce. Did I even miss out anything? Needless to say, when they arrived at Lina’s home on the day of the wedding, the entire neighbourhood could hear the revving of the engines from these luxury cars.

So, you can tell that Nicholas is the kind of guy who loves fine things. He loves his fast cars and is a cool kind of guy. Once he sets his eyes on something he likes, it stays for a long time. With Lina, Nicholas becomes a soft-hearted person who delights in pleasing and pampering her… treating her like a queen.

If you watch their fusion wedding video here and also, the extended version of their wedding video highlight at the bottom, you’ll see with your eyes and hear with your heart the amount of love these two share with each other.

Enjoy.
