Pre-Wedding: Sunil & Belinda

After spending many hours with Sunil and Belinda for their various wedding events, it’s obvious that these two fun-loving souls are completely and deeply in love with each other. Never mind the fact that she’s into shopping and he’s into football and sports – two completely different hobbies altogether. What matters are their hearts – joined together over a common love of music, drinking, socialising and the love of adventure. I just love Belinda’s feisty character and quick tongue. She’s really funny. Sunil too, has the personality to warm up a room the moment he is in it. Together, they rock!

Soon, we’ll be sharing photos from their epic wedding celebration – the Chinese ceremony in Singapore and the Hindu wedding in KL. For now, enjoy some of these favourite pre-wedding images, photographed by Weiming and Nigel.

The Fun-Filled Yap Family

It was one of those shoots that went so well, you hope and wish that every single family shoot was this easy. Firstly, we had this lovely lady to photograph, Mrs Gloria Chin. She told me she used to act and pose for photos when she was much younger, so she totally knew what to do and really worked it for the camera! I love her sincere smile, and her gung-ho-ness of walking the park despite the fact that she is not totally mobile according to her daughter, Mag.

20140714_Yap_FamilyPortraits_015So this is Mag and Ming Ern. I got to know them through DUMC, and they are a really fun couple to photograph. Mag really planned this shoot well and even brought chairs and props for the shoot! Ming Ern is a fun, extroverted kind of guy and the kids from Mag’s brother’s family really adore him.

20140714_Yap_FamilyPortraits_018So here’s Joel, Joey and Jaeydon. I can’t remember what I said that was so funny!

Casual Portraits: Erik & Meiri

I am excited to share this set of images taken by Nigel, because he has a really different way of looking at things, which makes his images unique! Here’s how Nigel feels about the shoot with Erik and Meiri…

Erik & Meiri are a fun couple to work with and I enjoyed my morning with them. Getting to know new people in life is always a good and exciting thing. After having a talk with Erik, I found out that we actually went to the same college and studied the same course, but at a different period of time. Both of them are from Indonesia and they decided to hop down to KL over the weekend to catch up with friends and also do a mini lifestyle photo shoot with us. It was my first time leading a portrait shoot for Stories and I absolutely loved it!

A Fireproof Marriage & A Pre-Wedding: Chih Wei & Diana

“Fireproof doesn’t mean that a fire will never come, but that when it comes, you’ll be able to withstand it.” – from the film Fireproof –

It’s definitely one of my favourite films about love and relationships. If you have never heard of this Christian film before, it’s a story about a firefighter, Caleb, who tries to save his marriage from burning to the ground. Everything seems to be going from bad to worse, which eventually leads him to consider divorce. At the lowest point of his life, Caleb’s dad gave him a Love Dare challenge – to perform a simple act of love for his spouse every day for 40 days. It could be something as simple as resolving not to say anything negative to your spouse the entire day.

“The sad part about it is, when most people promise for better or for worse, they really only mean for the better.”

The film spoke to me in many ways. Just like the quote above, it made me think about life and relationships. How often we go into marriage thinking everything will be rosy every single day of our lives. I often think of love as a choice and commitment. It’s not just a feeling or emotion, because when tough times come (as they surely will), we may not feel like we want to carry through with that commitment. It’s at times like these that you remember your vow to your spouse – for better or for worse. Choice to me does not mean that I have the option to leave anytime I want. It means that I choose to love that person even when I don’t feel like it.

And when tough times come into my marriage, I can say that it’s fireproof.

I was really excited when Chih Wei and Diana took out their Love Dare book from their bag during our pre-wedding session. I think it’s really awesome that couples desire to make their marriage fireproof by going through books like these together.

I was happy to hear that Diana also attends the same church I used to attend when I was studying in Australia years ago. It’s great that we have common friends and similar values in life. Once I got to know Chih Wei and Diana, I knew that we could instantly connect. Diana lives in Brisbane whereas Chih Wei works in Malaysia. I definitely respect any couple who goes through a long distance relationship and survives it! So much patience, understanding and effort needs to be sown into that relationship daily.

Since they are getting married this weekend, I thought I’d share some images from their pre-wedding session here. Congratulations Chih Wei & Diana, and may your marriage be filled with lots of exciting moments!

Pre-Wedding: Eric & Jennie

Photographer: Grace
Hair & Make Up: Michelle Touche
Wedding Gown: That Special Occasion
Flowers: My Bridal Florist

It’s such a great honour when another photographer chooses to hire us as their wedding photographer. It’s also quite stressful, cause they have certain ideas about what looks great, and with their x-ray vision, can probably tell if I’m making a mistake. :) But thankfully, Eric is super easy going and went with the flow… and Jennie, well, she is used to being in front of Eric’s camera.

Eric is a destination wedding and portrait photographer, having set his footprints in Australia and Indonesia. Currently, both Eric and Jennie live in Jakarta, but last month Eric and Jennie traveled to KL; he had planned to attend CM Leung’s photography workshop and during the same trip, be photographed by us!

Since their flight was scheduled to arrive in KL the day before the shoot, that meant we had very little time to organize everything. Multiple emails were shot back and forth before the wedding. They chose the location, we organized the flowers and the make up artist. After their flight landed on Saturday afternoon, they headed straight to That Special Occasion and found a beautiful gown for Jennie.

We had an awesome time wandering the streets of KL, and it was great that we had so much help! Together with my assistant, Diane, Eric & Jennie had brought their entire family along! Eric’s sister Elsa was shooting some behind the scenes photos, and Jennie’s parents were there for moral support! Now this is a different sort of family holiday!

Eric & Jennie, thank you for your confidence in us. It was so easy talking to and photographing the both of you! I can’t wait to fly to Jakarta next year for your wedding… it would be my first trip there, so am excited about it! Perhaps I can spare some time after to go shopping as well. :) Hope you like these images!
