Pre-Wedding & Engagement Portraits

Pre-Wedding: Adrian & Pei Hwa

Two students, fated to meet at an induction camp in Port Dickson before starting their housemanship. It just so happened that they were the only two from the camp posted in Ipoh. It was natural that they started talking about work, going out for meals together (and movies!)… and soon, Pei Hwa began to sense that there was more than just a friendship blossoming here.

Unfortunately for Adrian, she told him the line that every guy hates to hear…”Let’s just be friends.”

He was crushed.

It soon became awkward and the movies and dinner dates stopped, except for the occasional hi and bye at the hospital. It must have been fate again, because 6 months later, they started talking to one another again, and he followed her along for a trip to Bangkok with some of her friends.

Adrian: I honestly didn’t really dare to confess after what happened a year ago… but somehow I just felt that chemistry we had together. So yeah just thought a trip or two with others might let me get to know her much better but despite that, still didn’t really want to get squashed like a ripe tomato again >_<. Until she got mad = P

Pei Hwa: I really did get mad and didn’t talk to him or reply his messages for the whole day. Then after, he came and confessed. Somehow, we started dating but we didn’t remember when it was. So in the end, we decided to have our anniversary on the first Saturday of December. Hehe…

Then came our dreaded transfers and the beginning of long distance– I got posted to Manjung and him, Parit Buntar. I had never been in one and it didn’t work out for him in the past. Was difficult only being able to see each other once every 2 to 3 weeks, sometimes up to a month. At times we fought, usually I was the one who buckled, but he never gave up on me. But through it, I’d say we both learned to make sacrifices to keep our relationship going.

Pre-Wedding in Melbourne, Australia: Jason and Michelle

Jason and I go back a long way. We were at the university together enrolled in the same course. Jason and a bunch of us used to hang out together those days. Slowly we started to notice Jason pulling the disappearing act on us; which led to one thing – a special someone named Michelle. One thing led to another and fast forward a couple of years now, they are engaged and I was flown to Australia to photograph their pre-wedding photos. It was my first time in Australia for an assignment and Oh boy! the weather there was so unpredictable! I was even blamed by them for bringing the rain over when it was supposed to be sunnier. Oh well, at least there were no sweat at all during the shoot and we had great fun! (apart from some shivers, runny nose and flying hair!)

What Motivates Us

If I could sum up everything in one word, it would be LEGACY. What connects us and brings us together as visual storytellers? It is the idea that we are creating something that will far outlast ourselves. The love that you share as a couple, the memories of your parents, your child as she takes her first step… we want to record these precious moments and build a family legacy that you can look back on, years from now… and remember.

I hope this video will give you a glimpse into our thoughts and motivations and why we keep on doing what we do.

Lots of love,
The Stories Team

Pre-Wedding at Awan Mulan: Boon Hui & Alice

It was in Aberdeen, Scotland, amongst a small group of 10 people that Boon Hui got to know Alice. They had been in the same university in Malaysia for 2.5 years… but somehow didn’t really notice one another. Over study breaks and social gatherings, they got close to one another, but as Boon Hui says, he was pretty dense. Because he didn’t know that Alice had harboured feelings for him, despite her dropping LOADS of hints to him.

Finally, she got through to him, and one night in 2007, he asked her whether she’d be his girl. No words needed to be said as she took his hand and walked with him back to the apartment.

The relationship was challenged when they had to go through 3 years of long distance relationship after Alice came back to Malaysia. Every year, they would meet at a beautiful location and have a trip together but it was really difficult being apart physically.

One day, Alice discovered she had to go through a major operation to remove a tumour. He flew back to support her, and that really touched her so much, knowing that he would be there no matter what.

A long distance relationship is difficult in the first place. But to go through illness… well, I think relationships that endure such challenges will endure through the years. I am so pleased that Weiming and I could just catch a glimpse of their love through these images in such a beautiful setting.
