Makeup tips for your photography session

We highly recommend putting on some makeup for a photoshoot. That way, you would look your best and wouldn’t have to worry about taking photos from different angles!

After speaking with our makeup artist, Charlyn Leong, she said that there are some things we might do on our own to prepare. For basic makeup, we can prepare mascara, eyebrow pencil, blush, lipstick, compact powder, and oil-absorbing paper. Let’s dive in a little deeper.

Mascara – This is a great tool for enhancing your eyes, and it’s quite easy to use. It only takes a few seconds, and our eyes look better, so why not?

Eyebrow pencil – It’s good to have tidy eyebrows. Before you do this, make sure you have plucked or shaved some hair outside of the eyebrow shape. And then, use an eyebrow pen to fill in the spots that are empty. Just apply it softly without putting on too much pressure to create a more natural eyebrow.

Our favourite props at the studio

As a lifestyle photography studio, we often get asked on whether we provide props for shooting. It’s so common, we’ve worked it into our questionnaire – asking whether you’d like any specific props for your session. We have a wide variety of these in our studio but here is a list of our favourites and why we love them.

1. Red and White Tent

Whether it’s for an outdoor or indoor shoot, our red and white tents are one of our most requested props. We can see why – it’s a great backdrop, can be modified to include other decorations and can be easily styled to match your own personality too.

2. Indoor Garden

Keen on a garden shoot but can’t deal with our heat and humidity? Good news – we have a variety of potted plants that we can use to set up a miniature garden theme for you. All this in our climate-controlled indoor studio ;)

3. Rocking Horses

Warming up for photos is something that can take some time for children. It’s difficult for them to sit still for an extended period of time, and they usually have a lot of pent-up energy that needs to be released. Our rocking horse encourages play and allows children to be themselves while providing excellent photo opportunities. It also makes for great interaction shots between siblings or family members.

4. Baby-friendly Props & Toys

Babies are even more difficult to shoot than children since they cannot yet be instructed. As a result, we usually let them freestyle while we photograph them in their cutest natural moments. Whether it’s little chairs for them to sit on, rugs for crawling or stepping stools, our baby friendly props will allow your child to safely be their baby selves. We also have an abundance of toys and books at the studio, so we’d be happy to pull something out of the cupboard when the little ones get restless.

5. Festive Props

The festive season always seems to bring out the family feels. We often see a surge in bookings around this time, likely due to the whole family being together. If you’re looking to capture the spirits of the season, let us know and we’ll set up your session with our festive prop collection. Any ideas for what you would like for a Hari Raya or Deepavali themed shoot?

6. Volkswagen Kombi

While technically not in the Studio itself, Smurfette is our prized Volkswagen Kombi that’s available for rent. It’s presence immediately lends a fun vibe to weddings and the photo opportunities with her are endless!

Outdoor Maternity Session: Jason & Jill

It’s really amazing how photography can connect people. I met Jill for the first time during her maternity session, and we had a blast together. That very evening, as I was sharing bits of information about my photo shoot with my in-law’s, my mom-in-law suddenly connected the dots, and asked me out of the blue, “Is this Jillian Heng?” She told me that she was the cousin of Jill’s grandmother. So, that evening, I discovered a new distant relative. What a beautiful way to find family!

During Jill’s maternity session, we included her little pet dog into the photos as well. After all, pets are family too!

Congratulations, Jason and Jill on the birth of your little daughter recently. I look forward to meeting her in the near future.

Maternity Portraits: Eugene & Inessa

Eugene and Inessa are Uzbekistan Koreans who are really fun to be around with. They were all for trying new ideas for this maternity session and brought so much personality into their photos! No points for guessing who’s the heavy snack-er and who’s a serious Star Wars fan. We love the matching shoes that mom and little baby Lee have too. This kid is going to be a stylish one for sure!

Outdoor Maternity Portraits: Terence & Sarah

There are many ways to take maternity photos. For some, it can be really fun to dress up and bring out the props. For others, it can also be very simple. Much like Terence and Sarah’s at her 37th week. We went for a stroll with them at Taman Aman, stopping every now and then to snap a photo. We hope these photos will bring them many treasured memories in the years to come, as they look back and remember time their hearts grew bigger to make room for one more!
