Some Family Portraits (of the other kind)

It’s very normal that certain members of the family get neglected when it comes to taking photos. It’s not easy when your family members don’t want to cooperate even when you offer a treat to them. I’d like to introduce a few extended members of my family but unfortunately, I don’t have many nice photos of them.

This is Tanya (or Tania). She greets me everyday when I go to work, or when I get back from work. She’s young, excitable and sometimes likes to jump on me and land her paws on my outfit, especially when it’s white. When I scream her name, “Tanya, stop it!” she does it again, looking rather proud at her scuff marks on my dress. Other times, she chews my slippers or shoes, and then gets a prompt beating from Alex. He lost the straps to his Crocs that way. Tanya belongs to my in-law’s and is supposed to be a guard dog, but so far, she has failed at her duties. Guests who come by are promptly greeted with a grin and a tail wag.

This is Chino. The photo was taken by my friend Eugene some time back. Chino used to live with me, but now he’s freeloading at my sister’s house (while my home is being renovated). Chino likes to run and attack if he thinks you’re fun to play with. Hands and feet are for biting, he says. Oh, and my claws are hurting you? Sorry but I can’t help myself.

Ben, Kat & Aaron

Since Chinese New Year is just around the corner, and it’s the season for families to get together and celebrate life and love… it’s appropriate that I put up some family portraits today!

If you have spent even 10 minutes with this particular family, you will know instantly how warm and friendly they can be. Ben and Katherine are sincere, caring and absolutely trustworthy people. I got to know Ben and Katherine more than a year ago, and it’s been months since they’ve made the move to Singapore. Some time back, I photographed their maternity portraits, and now, little Aaron is one!

When I was in Singapore last December, we went to the Singapore Botanic Gardens for a family shoot. It was my first time there and I absolutely loved it! The place was just so pretty and definitely worth a visit again. Especially if I want to go somewhere nice to chill in Singapore (that is not a mall).

So here are some photos taken during our time together at the park.

Beach to Garden Pre-Wedding: Eric & Mun Wai

Photographer: Grace
Location: Singapore and Dusun Garden Fairies, Malaysia

It was in a little restaurant in Suntec city that I met Eric and Mun Wai for the first time. We chatted, had tea, and laughed over various travel stories. I found out that these two are an adventurous couple. They are full of life and love to laugh! In Dec, I came back to Singapore for part 1 of their pre-wedding shoot. We ended up on a somewhat secluded beach near Changi (it wasn’t completely secluded, I just cropped the rest of the people out!). Would like to thank Eulyn too, who came to assist me on the shoot in Singapore.

Yes every now and then we would see a plane flying overhead us.

Pre-Wedding in Malacca: Jasmine & Kwan Seng

Photographer: Grace, assisted by Weiming
Make Up & Hair: Angie Ng
Wedding Gown: That Special Occasion
Location: Malacca

Football was what connected the both of them. It helped too that they both supported the same team, Man U! In between games, while cheering on their favourite team, slowly but surely, Kwan Seng was scoring with Jasmine too. And so it happened. Two individuals with similar interests started sharing time together. And now it’s leading to a lifetime together.

Initially, it didn’t start out all nice and rosy. In fact, on their first date, Jasmine had to pick Kwan Seng up and drive him to their date location… According to her, he didn’t offer to drive. In another incident, a few dates later, he apparently ‘forgot’ to bring his wallet out. Guess who paid. But I guess it was all part of Kwan Seng’s endearing plan to charm Jasmine. Good thing for him, Jasmine is a forgiving and accepting person. :)

It’s been a while since I went back to my hometown for a photo shoot. I had heaps of fun doing their portraits, from classic poses to fun photos… you can tell that they are extremely versatile! We started our shoot at the beautiful Peranakan themed Courtyard@Heeren hotel.
