Monday Blues

There are days when you just get home from work, and all you want to do is continue working because the tasks never end. And yet you feel tired and a split second later, tell yourself, that work can wait till tomorrow. It feels like an almost vicious cycle…. even if this whole entrepreneurship journey started as a passion because you love your job. It has been a little like that lately… I even notice myself looking a little more grumpy in the mirror with more wrinkles.

Strangely enough, I come alive when it’s time to photograph a family or a couple. Adrenaline kicks in and I am in my ‘zone’… all energetic once again. Perhaps it’s the curse of the artistic entrepreneur – you get excited doing all these creative work, but the daily routine ‘business’ tasks bog you down. I feel stressed and worry about a lot of things. I feel sorry for my staff who sometimes sees a really serious, grouchy and stressed personality at the office! (Love you all, keep being your cheerful selves!).

Guess it’s not easy writing something like this, being authentic to yourself and others. But in order to be true to my soul, I have to be honest about everything. So this is my way of speaking to myself and saying, that maybe, I just need to look up and lighten up a bit.

I must say that coming home to two small smiley (one very drooly) beings makes me really really happy. Their hugs makes the world a lot better again. So tonight, the hubby and I decided to bring them out for a weekday ice-cream treat (ok, only one can truly enjoy that, since the other is too young to eat ice-cream). Simple pleasures in life of just being in the moment.

And since every post is better with photos, here’s a few images that we took from a day out with the kids at the local fire station visit last week.

Garden wedding at Thistle, Port Dickson: Gary & Ashley

Gary and Ashley have been together for 10 years. They know each other’s secrets, bad habits, strange quirks and a whole lot more. What initially started as platonic friendship in university with a common interest in clubbing, Jap food, good books, mahjong and cute cats led to something more. A little sparkle in the heart that made them pause to think… he/she’s the one.

Their wedding ceremony was held on the Thistle garden overlooking the Port Dickson sea. It was a breezy evening, a welcome respite from the heat of the earlier afternoon sun. William Lee who was officiant and emcee, did an excellent job at entertaining the guests, and had everyone holding their tummy in stitches, especially during the dinner. Their dessert table was delicious (we couldn’t resist sneaking some chocs into our mouths before dinner) and the photobooth backdrop was stunning.

Congratulations to the both of you, and thank you for a great experience in Port Dickson!

The Wedding Trailer: Andrew & Katrina

Andrew and Katrina’s wedding will be an epic one this Oct. They’ve blocked us for 3 entire weekends for their wedding celebrations, two in KL and one on Naka Island, near Phuket, Thailand. We can’t wait to share their pre-wedding photos as well, but that will come after it is previewed on the wedding day. But I hope this wedding trailer filmed by Chi Yin will give you a taste of the craziness that is to come!!

Thank you for taking care of us so well, Andrew and Katrina! We are sooooo excited to be part of your wedding team, and can’t wait for the big day to come! Lots of love from all of us here.

Family Portraits in Singapore: Alvin & Cheryl

My friendship with Cheryl started years ago when we were still in university in Australia – young, energetic and passionate about God. More than a decade later, I still hope we have the same amount of energy in us (just not as young!), even though she now has to run after 3 little girls. A few years ago, I photographed her family during their holiday in KL. At that time, it was just the 3 of them plus one on the way. Now that they have moved beyond the ‘normal’ quota of children most Singaporeans have, I am glad that I had the opportunity to photograph them once more.

I love Singapore for the many beautiful parks and outdoor spaces we can head to for pictures. I really don’t feel claustrophobic in this city with nice green spots like these near the Henderson Wave. The gorgeous evening light made everything so surreal. It was backlight heaven! Hope to head down to Singapore more often for more family portraits! *hint hint!*

Pre-Wedding at The Banjaran Hot Springs, Ipoh: Shao Xuan & Li Li

After our tummies were filled with yummy Ipoh chicken rice, the Stories team headed to the exclusive The Banjaran Hotsprings & Retreat, where we were to meet Shao Xuan and Li Li for their pre-wedding shoot. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the staff and the pitter-patter sounds of rain. The skies looked gloomy and we were worried. Unfortunately, the drizzles turned into large droplets of rain, and soon, we felt the full force of a tropical rain forest storm.

But Shao Xuan and Li Li remained calm, and were so open to following our lead. We headed indoors into some really cool caves (some were really really dark!) and did some photos there. After a while, the rain stopped a little, enough for us to take some photos outdoors. I kind of like the wet look on the trees, it makes the venue look so lush. Thank you Shao Xuan and Li Li for giving us the privilege of photographing the both of you and for remaining calm despite the torrential rain!
