Wedding of Daniel & Alison at Wesley Methodist Church

20140719_WEDDING_DANIEL_ALISON_0452It was the Easter weekend in Sydney. Daniel and Alison had already met in 2002 as family friends and then again in 2007 when Daniel visited Melbourne with his buddies and ‘coincidentally’ or perhaps, more ‘intentionally’ asked Alison to catch up. So now, it was Alison’s turn to travel to Sydney where Daniel was studying. Everything was still very platonic at this stage, but Daniel had developed some feelings for Alison by then. Somehow, a few things happened during this trip that made it so significant for them as a couple.

While walking along the Darling Harbour, a lady ‘statue’ in disguise randomly picked Daniel and Alison among their friends to come closer to her. In her hand, were some flowers, which she gave them to hold, and placed a flower crown on Alison’s head. In a simple gesture, she indicated for them to hold hands, which they sheepishly did. Then, there was the incident at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Daniel proved he was good at ‘aiming’ when he won a shooting game there and asked Alison to pick a grand prize that she liked. Together, they chose a giant unicorn which she brought back to Melbourne and subsequently to KL where it’s found it’s resting place in Alison’s bedroom till today. (it made an appearance in her wedding photos too!)

20140719_WEDDING_DANIEL_ALISON_0012Though they were complete opposites in terms of personality (Daniel is the shy, quiet type – we had to work really hard to draw his cute dimples out during the wedding! And Alison’s the talkative, bubbly girl who doesn’t have any problems laughing or showing her expressions)… they worked well as a couple. Despite the distance between Melbourne and Sydney, they kept in touch and realised they had so much in common. After dating over 6 years, Daniel proposed to Alison on 17 December 2013 in Docklands, Melbourne…the place where he brought her on their first dinner date. Happiest day of their lives. And yes, Daniel is pretty good at his aim.

Congratulations, both of you! Be prepared for a whole series of images, taken by Grace, Nigel & Jamie.

Beach Wedding at Andaman, Langkawi: Simon & Lisa

“Grace and Nigel were fantastic, both very professional, creative and great to be around on the day whilst not getting in people’s faces – as someone who hates having his picture taken, they were a pleasure to be around.” – Simon

I have traveled to Langkawi many times over the past few years, but every time we head there, it is a different experience. I loved Simon and Lisa’s wedding for a few different reasons… they were a great laid-back couple to work with (despite the fact that Simon hates posing for the camera!), there were lots of cute kids at this wedding which totally made my day, and the guests were just so friendly to Nigel and I. Langkawi is really popular wedding destination location especially for couples from Australia. The only drawback is the humidity, so hugging people at the end of the night can be a very sticky affair!

Simon works in the construction line, so he said being all ‘soft’ and romantic during the wedding was something completely different to what he’s used to! But looking at the way he shed his tears as Lisa walked down the aisle made me think otherwise. I think you have a really soft side to you, Simon!

I hope these images will remind you of your love for each other years down the road when the going gets tough. Come back again to Malaysia for another holiday sometime soon, or perhaps one day, we will meet again, when you celebrate your anniversary, maybe?

Pre-Wedding, KL skyline: James & Alexia

James and Alexia first got to know about us through a friend’s Sikh and Hindu wedding that we photographed in 2012. James had moved to KL from Perth, Australia to work; whereas Alexia relocated from the US to Malaysia for work as well, with the intention of having fun along the way, seeing a bit of Asia for a year…but definitely not meeting boys! It was fate, however that brought them together to the same office in Kuala Lumpur.

The friendship soon evolved to something more and then 3 years later, James proposed! They are having a civil ceremony in Perth in December 2014 and a Christian ceremony close to Alexia’s Honduras home at Antigua Guatemala amongst colonial ruins. (Which sounds absolutely heavenly! By the way, we’d loveeee to travel to Guatemala to shoot a wedding! Hint hint!)

Enjoy these set of pre-wedding images taken by Jamie and Diane.

Wedding at St Andrew’s Church: Greg & Amanda

Greg and I first met at a wedding years ago when I was new in the industry as a photographer. He was in a band, and I seriously don’t recall much of our meeting, but years later, Greg meets me and tells me… “We met there. I remember you took a really nice photo of our band.” Well, I was glad that I made such an impression, because that led to us photographing Greg and Amanda’s wedding at the quaint and highly coveted venue, St Andrew’s Church in KL.

I love how both Greg and his brother Chris (who is a well-known theatre director in KL) are equally fun and theatrical (pun intended!). They have lots of wonderful facial expressions, which makes for great photography. On his wedding day, Greg, being the extroverted person that he is, outspoke Amanda during his speech. Good thing is that she complements him in her own seemingly quiet little way.

They first met at a church camp when Amanda was only 12, and Greg… well, let’s say, he was much older. Fast forward years later, and they bumped into each other again… now, both working as lawyers (correction, Greg told Amanda he was a partner…good move!). When you’re in school, age means the world when you’re dating, but now… Amanda is a grown up woman, beautiful and mature.

You have to watch more of their wedding highlights to find out more about this cute couple, including hearing Greg’s wonderful singing voice. Greg and Amanda, thank you for inviting us to be part of your beautiful day. I love connecting with couples like you guys who make our work feel like such a joy. Thank you for your friendship!

To our viewers, sorry for the massive post! It was just soooo hard to cut down on our favourite images!

Malaysian-Mauritian Wedding: Charles & Jenna

“Jenna’s Mauritian, so I always tell her she’s my African wife…”

Charles and Jenna are a fun couple, and it really reflects through their wedding! I got to know Charles many years ago because we come from the same hometown, Malacca…and so I know that all the guys who were there at the wedding would make it really loud and rowdy! A totally sporting crowd! Unfortunately, I wasn’t there to witness this beautiful wedding, but Ben and Eric were there to photograph the wedding in Malacca.

Jenna was Charles’ sister’s housemate in London, and that’s how they met each other years ago. Charles was attracted to Jenna’s easy going personality…and so one thing led to another…and now they are married! Congratulations Charles and Jenna!
