Family Portraits: Shirah, Fahrizal & Ara

Three years ago, I was privileged to have photographed Fahrizal and Shirah’s royal wedding at Shangri-La Hotel in KL. It was one of the first few times I photographed a royal wedding alongside with all the formalities and protocol. I can’t believe how time has flown, because now, Fahrizal and Shirah has a sweet little princess of their own. I love what Shirah did to dress up this little photo shoot ‘set’. In her own words, “I’m a wannabe party planner!”.

Little Ara enjoyed rocking on her horse, spending time with her parents, but as with all toddlers, the tide can turn at any time! Halfway through the shoot, she decided she didn’t want to take any more photos! Temper tantrums make my job a lot more interesting! :) (By the way, it is really normal to have toddlers rolling on the ground halfway through a shoot).

Maternity & Baby Portraits: Peter & Sharon

It’s always a pleasure to photograph the people closest to you, and to know that you’re documenting such a beautiful moment in their lives. Sharon and I have a relationship that goes beyond a decade. We’ve seen each other through our ups and downs, cried with each other, and laughed together. From adolescence to adulthood. It’s been a wonderful friendship. I’m so happy that I even had a voting say in how to spell baby J’s name! I look forward to growing old together as we mature together in life, Sharon and Peter.

The maternity photos were taken by me, and the rest of the baby and family portraits were photographed by Diane.

Pre-Wedding: Sunil & Belinda

After spending many hours with Sunil and Belinda for their various wedding events, it’s obvious that these two fun-loving souls are completely and deeply in love with each other. Never mind the fact that she’s into shopping and he’s into football and sports – two completely different hobbies altogether. What matters are their hearts – joined together over a common love of music, drinking, socialising and the love of adventure. I just love Belinda’s feisty character and quick tongue. She’s really funny. Sunil too, has the personality to warm up a room the moment he is in it. Together, they rock!

Soon, we’ll be sharing photos from their epic wedding celebration – the Chinese ceremony in Singapore and the Hindu wedding in KL. For now, enjoy some of these favourite pre-wedding images, photographed by Weiming and Nigel.

Every parent would share the story of how their child has deviously wrapped them up tightly around his/her little finger, despite the determined declarations that it would never happen. But if we are truly honest with ourselves, we’d tearfully admit that the child is queen. Or king. Yup, just look at that face. Who could ever say no to that kind of cuteness?

Thoughts on Children’s Birthday Parties

Marc 20140315_PATT_MORNING_004 As a child, I remember begging my mom to hold birthday parties for me. Even at a young age, I knew parties were fun and the extroverted me just LOVED being around lots of people. To fulfil my requests, I recall the amount of preparation she put into making the party an awesome one for me- from cooking the food to preparing the gift packs and inviting friends and family. Now when I think about it, I really cannot thank my mom enough for making the little gathering a spectacular affair for the 9-year-old me.

Unfortunately, mom was so busy that she forgot to take a photo with me at the party.

Having shot a few kids’ birthday parties, I realise not much has changed. It’s easy to get caught up with coordinating the event and not enjoying it. I think what’s worst is when all your efforts in coordinating this event is not properly documented! Based on my experience as a photographer, I’d like to share a few points for you to help your photographers get the coverage you want.
