Darryl and Diana tied the knot a few years ago and had Kate shortly after, but they didn’t get a chance to take maternity or newborn photos then as she was born premature and sent to the ICU. But look at how she has grown! She will be receiving a baby sister soon, and I can’t wait to meet her as well during our newborn session. During our session together, I was warned that Kate may not take too easily to strangers, but thank God she liked my smiley face. :) I love how this set of images turned out.
We just dug this out of our archives and realised it’s too good a set to miss out! When you have a family as good looking as the Ng family, you just have to share the photos. When people enquire if they can include their extended family into their photo session, we always say yes! It’s a great way to connect across generations as the family gets together for a fun activity. We have fit up to 22 people in our studio before. Phew, it was challenging posing and lighting everyone, but we did it!

Remember Maarten and Marieke’s maternity portraits that Jamie shot some time ago? Well, they have now delivered an adorable baby girl and we had the pleasure of meeting her! She is just so gorgeous, perfectly formed with that cute button nose and beautiful lips. We love photographing newborn babies because they are just tiny once… (and remind you of the sleepless nights you experienced as a young mother). But once they get older, you will wish they were much lighter, and you start to miss all those little moments again… holding those tiny hands, the first time bitter sweet experience of breastfeeding your child or even worrying about why she can’t sleep at night or during the day.
This quote I read in Gretchen Rubin’s Happiness Project book resonates with me, and I am sure it will with you too.
“The days are long, but the years are short”
We love it when our clients come up with interesting ideas for our shoot sessions, even if the idea involves a pregnant woman in a gym setting! It was quite timely too, since the shoot was due to happen in our studio, but coincidentally, we had just completed the set up of our very own company gym, that is shared with the Integricity Technology group. So we could do all the shots within our office space, and all within an hour. :)
Malisse has since delivered her baby girl, and we are so happy for them!
It’s in the little moments. Those moments that we so easily forget within a year, a week or even a day. But it’s not just about capturing the moments. It’s about remembering the happiness that relationships bring. Photography helps you remember why you married your spouse so many years ago. It helps you remember those tiny little feet that brought a swelling to your heart the moment she was born. It even brings to mind that ‘slightly ugly family couch’ you lounged on years ago till your parents decided to finally buy a new one.
Sometimes we are caught up with the routines of daily life and hardly have time to reflect on things that bring us the greatest joy. If we are true to ourselves, we will acknowledge that real connections with the people most precious to us makes us happy. If we can just capture snippets of life with these people, and reflect on these memories when life throws us a hardball, we will begin to remember that feeling.
With the launch of new and better camera phones yearly, it’s no surprise that photography is pretty much a natural habit. But most of the time, we have snippets of so many memories taken without us being part of the picture. This is where I challenge you to include photography as part of your yearly personal budget… not viewed as an expense, but as an investment towards your future. You are building an album filled with happy memories.
