Maternity Studio Session: Iris Teo

A maternity session never fails to delight us, especially when we get to work with couples like Iris and her husband. They were relaxed, lovable, and totally excited about the coming of their little one. I mean, who wouldn’t be!

Speaking of which, did you know that fetus is the Latin word for “little one”? How adorable!

Kyle’s Birthday Party at Carey Island’s Mangrove Swamp

This is by far the messiest outdoor kids party we’ve ever photographed… but probably the most fun too! We’re talking mud, paint, and a totally cool slippery soap slide! Alex and Grace decided to throw their son a 6th year old birthday he’ll remember for life. Kyle’s older sister, Krysta helped with the set up as the guests began to arrive for the picnic. After everyone had full bellies and nice clean photos… it was time for a gruelling hike through the mangrove forest.

Because this took place during monsoon season, kids had the experience of hiking through knee-high mud. It was a challenge, but they all made it through. After a refreshing dip in the pond, paint buckets, water guns, and soap suds were brought out. You could see how much the adults had missed this sorta thing too.

And did Kyle have a good time? He most certainly did!

Maternity & Family Photos at Home: Sebastian & Yan Lim

A maternity photoshoot is always exciting and special when you’re a new mother. If it’s your second child, the photoshoot could turn into a family session! For Sebastian and Yan, this maternity-family shoot was for their fourth child! Still as special, even more so because she says it will be their last.

We went to their home for this one and it was beautiful! Yan clearly has an eye for home styling. There were so many beautiful corners to photograph with! It was easy to photographer her and her husband. She’s a go-getter while he’s calm and a little more introverted. They make a good team, which is great because they work together professionally too.

Their three other kids, Isaac, Sophie, and Lucas joined us for the shoot as well. The coming of a fourth child will be a big change for Lucas as he will soon learn to be an older brother too. It’s a whole family affair!

Razin Turns One: Family Portraits with Afiq & Sabrina

Whenever we plan family photos sessions with parents of young children, we like to ask them to describe their child / children. Even at the age of one and younger, a child’s personality traits start to show here and there. It’s always so nice to hear parents marvel at their children even before their kids say their first words! Every little behaviour or quirk is to be appreciated.

Afiq and Sabrina described their son as a very observant baby who takes time to assess new people and his new surroundings. He LOVES animals… especially elephants, balls, shiny gold things, and playing peek-a-boo! So of course, we had to give Razin a birthday setup that would bring out his best smile and twinkly curious eyes. His parents brought along some of their own props and it all came together so nicely!

A Growing Family: Marek & Andrea

The last time the Zatlukals were at the studio, Stella was a wee little baby. The time before that, Eliska was a tiny toddler. How lovely it is to grow with this family through the years! They rock cosy  chequered prints and candid moments so well. As always, with young children, we start the photo session with a few warm up activities and candid shots. There’s plenty to choose from our toy corner, but we like to bring things out slowly. This keeps the experience exciting for young kids. Remember, even a 30-minute photoshoot can feel like forever in the eyes of a child!

Once everyone has gotten comfortable with the environment and our cameras, its time to move around the studio and try different family arrangements in the photos. Sometimes its a complete circus in there. Other times, more manageable. But at all times… we get the shots we need and the ones you love!

Check out the rest of their family portraits below and click here to Eliska when she was this tiny too.
