Preparing for a Newborn Shoot

Aren’t newborn babies just the cutest? This tiny little human whom you birthed has suddenly become the most important person in your life. And the truth is, they grow so, so fast. In fact, the newborn stage barely lasts two months at most! Here are some pointers to help you prepare for a newborn baby photoshoot.

1. Know the timeline

If you’re looking for photos in the newborn phase (think sleepy, swaddled babies), the best time to do this is in the first 14 days. Babies in this two week window period tend to be smaller, enjoy being swaddled and spend most of their time sleeping, thereby making them easier to mould into various positions used for newborn photography. If you’ve missed this marker, don’t worry; newborn photography can still be captured for babies up to a month old, however, they will likely be more alert as they grow older. The best time to do the shoot would be morning, as babies tend to be a little cranky towards the late afternoon.

2. Plan ahead of time

As a new parent, you’re likely to be sleep-deprived, you might want to source your photographer and make a tentative booking based on your expected due date to ensure they’ll be available during that period. It’s also a good idea to talk about the types of images you want to take ahead of time. This way, you can get all important discussion out of the way and focus on getting sufficient rest after your delivery. Continue Reading

Baby Milestones Worth Capturing

Baby photos are so cute. More than that, they’re marvellous because the first 12 months of a baby’s life is when their fastest development happens – and you get to witness it! Their features change in just weeks and so do their abilities. From responding to you with their first smile, to learning how to roll over and sit up. It’s a full year packed with “firsts” – moments of marvel that will never happen again. These are the milestones worth capturing in photographs:

    1. Tiny, Sleepy Days: Birth to 2 months

This is the easiest time to take photos of your newborn because they spend a great deal of the day sound asleep. You can easily mould their posture to get creative shots without any fuss. Just feed them with a good dose of milk prior to the shoot!

This is also the time where you want to remember the smell and softness of their skin, and just how tiny they are in your arms…

Jacques and Pei Shing did their maternity shoot with us and just in November, we went over to their home to capture these moments with their little family. This was also a chance for them to have a few portraits of their daughter, a spirited dancer!  Just like mommy!

Newborn & Lifestyle Family Portraits: Calvin & Melissa

Melissa was still under confinement when we did this at-home newborn and family photos shoot for them. She and her husband Calvin were so nice, they let us pretty much have free reign of the house as shooting options! Their boys were so much fun to hang out with and spent a great deal of time showing us their room and their toys – as kids do. When the photos were delivered shortly after, she wrote us a review that totally made our day:

“I loved the whole experience! From enquiry with Wai Teng [the studio manager] to the warm video explanation with Grace the founder. We are very happy with the photographer Chi Yin and her assistant. Chi Yin was experienced with handling our newborn baby and they were well prepared with props!

We are not good with poses but all the photos turned out beautiful because they are natural and we were constantly assured during the photography session. I truly appreciate their tips on how to pose better and where to take pictures around our house as I was under confinement at the time. I know it’s not easy to take pictures with our newborn and two other cheeky boys aged 5 and 7 then.

The whole session turned out to be like a fun family activity with no pressure. We love the photos ! Thank you! Would definitely come back for family photos again.”

We are always so grateful that our job involves meeting wonderful people like them. We always strive to give our best. So hearing feedback like this helps us know we’re doing something right, and we never take it for granted.

Baby Portraits: June Jeremiah & Annamaria Edward

June Jeremiah and Annamaria met in 2014 while doing their MBA here in Malaysia. She’s from Tanzania and he’s from Botswana. They had chemistry immediately and eventually got married just last year! They told us about how they bonded over their love for the outdoors and travelling. It helped to bridge the differences in their nationalities and upbringing.

Now with a cute little bundle of joy, the two of them had every reason to commemorate this season of their lives with a photoshoot. Annamaria’s brother joined in too.
