Outdoor Family Portraits: Kelvin, Francine, and Caleb

The Singapore Botanic Gardens made the perfect backdrop for Kelvin and Francine’s family photo session. The colours and outfits they wore looked amazingly comfortable, making them feel comfortable as we moved around the park too. Don’t you just love how these shades of blue, khaki, and cream complement each other and the whole photo?

The session also involved extended family members: Kelvin’s mom and sister, and Francine’s brother and her parents. We love how they also used colour to differentiate both sides of the family, and yet unite them harmoniously. Of course, the one who really stole the show has got to be their son, Caleb.  This little lad warmed up so easily and was clearly the life and energy of the party!

Lifestyle Family Portraits: Jessica, Zoe, and Aidan

Our lifestyle photo session with Jessica and her kids, Zoe and Aidan took place at the hotel they were staying at during their trip to Kuala Lumpur. Jessica’s work keeps her busy and she likes keeping memories of her children close by filling her phone with their photos. She rarely gets the chance to be in photos with them. So with a nice hotel room setting, lots of natural light, and matching pyjamas. we helped her capture some of her favourite moments with them. Snuggles and cuddles all round!

Photographing Kids: Treasuring the Years While They’re Young

We’re entering the weekend with some of our favourite shots over the past year… of happy kiddos! These little humans make our days so much fun at the studio and outdoors. Children sometimes take awhile to warm up to someone new, especially when they’re holding a camera. So we have a studio full of props, toys and even small-sized furniture to fit them.

We also know that during this time, many parents would be spending time with their children at home. This is a great opportunity to snap some photos to treasure these moments, especially since kids grow so fast! So we have put all our tips on how to photograph children into a little eBook which we’re giving for free for a limited time! Read on to find out more.

What is Lifestyle Photography?

Do a Google search for a ‘family photographer’ and chances are, you’ll see lifestyle photography as a service too (that’s what we offer as well). “What’s lifestyle photography?” you might wonder.  Well, this article will be addressing that. After this, you can add one more photography term to your vocabulary with confidence and clarity. Most importantly, you’ll know what it means for you!

A lifestyle photographer is someone who documents a person’s lifestyle by capturing photos of their real-life events, situations, or their milestones in an artistic manner. It celebrates the art of the everyday. Many photos you see of other families and couples having the best ‘candid’ moments captured while doing ‘everyday-looking-things’ are often categorised as lifestyle photography. A true lifestyle session is full of candid moments that happen when a photographer gets to follow their subjects to places that they frequently spend time at.

However, what really goes on behind the scenes is that there’s a highly skilled photographer directing all the shots! Many of these ‘candid moments’ don’t happen by themselves, and they may not always happen in places that are meaningful to the people in the photo. The reality is, its usually a photographer’s job to create opportunities for these moments to happen and quickly snap the photo whenever it does. Here are some examples:

Maternity Portraits: May Goh

We love doing maternity portraits because it’s one of the most significant moments in the life of a couple and family. It also challenges our creativity. We get new opportunities to put their excitement into visual representation through photographs.

May and her husband Gentry spent an hour at our studio for this shoot. We had a couple of props and furnishings set up against different backdrops. They brought two little pairs of shoes and onesies to symbolise the twins they were expecting in December 2019. They also brought a few other accessories and the ultrasound scans too of course.

If you’re expecting soon, our founder Grace (who has two kids!) recommends scheduling your maternity portraits around 6-7 months into your pregnancy. You would probably have the most energy in your second trimester compared to the end of your third trimester. It’s the best time to look radiant and fresh in your photos too, much like how May does in hers. Scroll on to see how they “packaged” their Christmas gifts!
