Amidst lush, majestic and mature trees just alongside the Batu Feringgi beach, David and Nandini were wed at the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort, Penang. The garden was beautifully decorated for their Hindu wedding ceremony, and all their guests came in traditional Indian attire. It was a tropical treat for David and Nandini’s guests from Ireland, who basked in the sun, witnessed a meaningful wedding ceremony, and enjoyed delicious Indian cuisine. Both Weiming and I were really blessed to have such thoughtful clients who really looked out for our best interests. Even Nandini’s mum made sure I was well fed since I was well into my 2nd trimester of pregnancy by then!
Win and Aindra were both medical students from Myanmar who fell in love with each other while studying in Malaysia. In fact, they’ve lived in Malaysia for so many years that it has become home to them, even though they recently made the move back to their home country. With their little one Edga in tow now, they see lots of opportunities as Myanmar has risen up through the years and is a growing country.
I too have fond memories and links to Myanmar. My great-grandfather from my mother’s side moved from Myanmar to Malaysia years ago so part of my family history originates there. I have also traveled to Myanmar in 2008 where I spent 2 weeks around Yangon, Inle Lake, Bagan and the surrounding areas climbing stupas, cycling the streets, talking and eating with locals, chasing sunrises, and visiting churches. In Malaysia, I have photographed 2 Myanmar refugee weddings – for Zwe & Stellar and also Bobo & Catherine.
So recently, while Win and Aindra were back in Malaysia for a short holiday, we did a photo shoot for their family. It was a beautiful day in the park, and we had a great time together. Edga, the little man, was ever so happy to be with his parents chasing after birds, being lifted in the air, or just simply walking around. Here are some of my favourites from our session together.
She was only a teenager aged 14 and he was the ‘older’ boy who was 17. One day, in their small hometown in Teluk Intan, Suresh visited a friend who coincidentally lived next to Priya. It was over the fence that Priya caught Suresh’s attention. And it was that day onwards that Suresh fell head over heels in love for this Punjabi girl whom he barely knew. But there was a slight problem. He’s Indian and her family would surely reject him based on that reason.
But it didn’t stop Suresh from trying to get Priya’s number. Being young and naive, Priya was afraid. So she held back, and only gave him her email. It was only 6 months later that she eventually decided to trust him enough with her number. As time passed, Priya realised that she was slowly falling for this guy. He made her feel comfortable and even though he had to move to KL for his studies, every weekend, he would travel back to Teluk Intan just to see her and bring her gifts.
It was only when she moved to KL to study that she realised how important Suresh was to her. He was like her pillar of support, protector and helper. On the other hand, she was his source of comfort during times of stress and always made sure he was well taken care of with her loving and caring nature.
But all through out the 13 years they were together, Priya’s parents were never really supportive of their relationship… till 2 years ago. One day, Priya’s dad had a chat with her and told her that he’d like to meet Suresh. To Priya’s surprise, her entire family got along so well with Suresh! They were taken by his kindness and love for her. And now, 15 years later, Suresh and Priya will be married.
It was one of those shoots that went so well, you hope and wish that every single family shoot was this easy. Firstly, we had this lovely lady to photograph, Mrs Gloria Chin. She told me she used to act and pose for photos when she was much younger, so she totally knew what to do and really worked it for the camera! I love her sincere smile, and her gung-ho-ness of walking the park despite the fact that she is not totally mobile according to her daughter, Mag.
So this is Mag and Ming Ern. I got to know them through DUMC, and they are a really fun couple to photograph. Mag really planned this shoot well and even brought chairs and props for the shoot! Ming Ern is a fun, extroverted kind of guy and the kids from Mag’s brother’s family really adore him.
So here’s Joel, Joey and Jaeydon. I can’t remember what I said that was so funny!
I am really excited to be able to share with you a recent development that we’ve been working on the past few months. In the past, we’ve had requests to purchase our photography service as a gift for friends or family members. We’ve printed personalised vouchers and sent it out to the lucky recipients, but all these were done on an ad hoc basis.
So now, we’ve officially launched the Stories Gift Pack! Currently, the gift pack is only available for our Lifestyle Photography packages (Studio or Outdoor shoots for family portraiture, maternity, newborn or anytime portraits). Each gift pack is valued differently to suit various budgets. You can purchase the Stories Gift Pack at our online store where we will courier to any location within Malaysia at no extra cost, or you can walk into participating stores and buy it off the shelf at a discounted rate.
At the moment, the only physical store you can purchase these gift packs is from Blue Dot Baby in Bangsar Village. The gift pack is valid for a year from the date of purchase.
So how do you redeem a session? It’s really easy. Head on over to our store page and fill up the form with your details, preferred shoot dates and voucher code that is unique to each gift pack.
If you’d like to enquire about our lifestyle photography services for yourself, do keep in mind that we do have other options listed in terms of packages and pricing, so head on over to our usual contact us form to get our rate card.
Thank you for your support, especially to all our returning clients who have entrusted us to capture your family history… from your wedding to your maternity photos and family portraits. Some of you have recommended friends our way, and for that, we’re truly grateful.
