Casual Fun: John & Praveena’s Pre-Wedding

Was her name Jaavaani, or Pravani, or something like that? John didn’t quite remember, after meeting Praveena at workk for the first time in Singapore. She was annoyed because he could not pronounce her name properly, plus the extroverted John was a little too loud for her liking. Finally, after a few weeks of calling the wrong name, he got it right.

Praveena: We worked really long hours and found common friends with those who had as little work-life balance as us. Our clique was called “Macarena Madness”, named after some incident where John had to do the Macarena for losing a challenge. Over the years, we’ve had many challenges (e.g. weight loss challenge, 6 pack challenge, KFC double down challenge). We trained for a marathon, had various drinking sessions and even dressed as corpse bride and groom for Halloween.

While I was getting fond of him, I realized that John might have feelings for me only after thinking about all the nice things he had done for me (e.g. making breakfast on my birthday, bringing me home when I’m drunk, defending me when other teased me, protected me from questionable strangers). I guess John slowly grew on me.

John: Working long hours, we got to talk a lot. We worked through nights and went for breakfast together. Not realizing it myself, I started doing things that favor her and sharing secrets with her, so much so that the colleague behind me asked me if there was something on between us. Not good at lying and taken by surprise, I didn’t have an answer and that was when I realized that there was probably something going on. I realized I enjoyed making her smile!

Praveena: John asked me to be his girlfriend in true Love Actually style – with the cue cards – because he knew I liked that movie. After the initial anxiety of telling our friends and family (who thankfully were supportive), it was pretty much the same usual things we did after. It was just nice to know that John was always there to have my back.

John: There was a phase when I thought she liked another guy and she thought I liked another girl. But once I realized we were actually talking about each other (Praveena kinda gave me a big hint when she was drunk), I was overjoyed and went on to text her about it the next day. She was feeling embarrassed for a moment cause she was still thinking the girl I liked was someone else. But I told her all was well and hinted her that she was the one I was talking about. Playful me wanted to let her feel embarrassed a while longer and so hinted her to let her realize it herself. xD

Then we had our first date and we got together. Since we already got to know each other in office and spent maybe one or two months thinking that each other liked someone else, we didn’t really have a dating phase of knowing each other more to ascertain if we like each other, but more of went on to the dating phase of knowing each other more.

Being in the same line and having similar mindset about how things should and should not be done at work, we quickly realized we are a great match! =p We were excited to move on to the next phase of the relationship!

Portraits of Adnan & Ameerah

They met in medical school 8 years ago. He was the boy in class who made the most noise, and was always fun loving with a great sense of humour. He thought Ameerah was cute (apparently that’s all it takes, according to her). They started going out as friends, initially in big groups which eventually shrunk to just the two of them.

They spent a lot of time studying together, while listening to music on her iPod. It was only years later did she find out that they did not share the same taste in music at all! It was his excuse of sharing earphones just to be close to her. One fine day, he told her he loved her, and they became a couple. He was a total romantic, writing Ameerah love letters and sweeping her off her feet with flowers and fancy dinners. Many years later, he proposed at Lake Como and she said yes… and this March, they got married!

Studio family portraits: Nicholas & Sophie

Every now and then two cute little munchkins like Lucas and Chiara would come along, and then we’d get gorgeous family portraits like the one below! Our natural light studio feels like a home, and so we get casual looking photos for the families that come through our doors. This session was photographed by Jamie.

Sophie says.. “We had booked a 1-hour studio photo shoot with Stories for family portraits, which is quite a challenge when you have two untamed little gangsters as part of the family, and when both parents are camera-shy! The photo shoot studio is very pleasant with lots of natural light – it feels a bit like home. The Stories team was great, easy-going, putting us at ease, adapting to the dynamics of the family and most importantly…we had fun! The photos are beautiful and we keep good memories of this photo session. An experience to renew, definitely!”

Portraits at Fort Canning, Singapore: Dave & Cynthia

Years ago, Cynthia and I were just college students, talking about which mamak to go to for a yumcha session, or which movie to watch with our group of friends. We talked about life, about friendships and our future. Since then, we’ve both moved on to build our own lives… and Cynthia is now married to Dave, with a life of their own in Singapore. But she’s still the fun-going (yet ever responsible) Cynthia I know. Nothing that much has changed. And yet so much has. We had fun going around Fort Canning Park one evening, just doing some casual portraits. Lots of love to the both of you!

Pre-Wedding at 20 Trees: Kevin & Shermaine

It was the perfect childhood love story for Kevin and Shermaine. You know, one filled with pimples, braces and all. From puppy love to teenage crushes and finally, true love… Kevin and Shermaine made it. Even though many opt to go to exotic locations for their pre-wedding shoot, Kevin and Shermaine decided on the opposite – to just do their photos at her home. It wasn’t really the location that mattered after all, but the connection that the two of them share. Thanks for the friendship you two. We felt as if we connected with the both of you too during the shoot and made it to the friends list! May your marriage be filled with awesome moments and lots of laughter. Hugs!

20150306_PRE-WEDDING_KEVIN_SHERMAINE_227Bride’s story:

I knew Kevin since I was 10 or 11 years old in children’s church. We used to HATEEE each other especially when there were those competitive “boys vs girls” rivalry games in church. We practically saw each other grow up. We stayed in the same ‘taman’ with houses a stone’s throw away from each other.

He saw me through my geeky brace-face days, and I saw him through his ‘bad-boy’ wannabe moments. We were always friends, grew up teasing/ hating each other’s guts. I knew of his existence and his of mine but it was nothing romantic lah! *cue defensive mode* Ok fine…maybe a little…I had a crush on him when we entered our high school phase….but I never pursued it.

We never really saw each other as ‘someone to love’ until one really traumatic experience for me when I was 18.

I used to love taking walks up ‘G Hill’ in Taman Melawati alone to clear my head and exercise. On one not-so-lucky occasion, I bumped into a man coming from the opposite direction of the hike path. He was obviously not in his right mind as he decided to conveniently “flash” me with his ‘you-know-what’ down there!

In utter disbelief, I turned, and ran away as fast as I could. Upon reaching my house, I couldn’t believe it! The man had made a full circle and lo and behold, he was coming down the road and approaching me.

I turned a 180 and took off to a different housing area. First thought that came to my mind “I should call Kevin Lee, he stays nearby.” And called him I did, but he did not pick up. So I decided to stop walking and cab my way back to my house to avoid any unnecessary encounters.

Towards dinner time, I received a call from Kevin who was wondering as to why I would call him at such an odd hour as he was actually sitting for an exam in uni (bless his heart!). The moment I told him about my encounter, he quickly rushed back all the way from uni just to see me.

And I guess as they say, the rest is history. Loved blossomed, we dated 2 years, we did long distance for our 3rd and 4th year together, we dated another 2 more, we got engaged in our 6th year, and now we’re getting married at the 7th, perfection!
