Wedding at Grand Hyatt, KL: En Ruey & Jas Min

One of the most wonderful things about being a wedding photographer is the ability to connect with others on a deeper level, one that goes beyond a client-vendor relationship. Ever since I discovered the wedding photography industry, my life has changed for the better. I have developed friendships and have photographed families as they grow through the years. En Ruey and Jas Min are one of those couples who are now my friends. To date, we’ve photographed their pre-wedding shoot, wedding, En Ruey’s family portraits and Jas Min’s parent’s birthdays. I look forward to spending more time with this wonderful family as we mature in life.

I’ll let them share their story and thoughts about the wedding as you view the photos below.

“We both were classmates in high school during F4 & F5. Amazingly we never really met each other until then. I think our classmates were even more amazed that we even got together despite all the bantering, yelling and slinging books at each other across the classroom. To be honest, at that age, there wasn’t really any “he’s the one” sort of moment and this was of course compounded by our breakup 6 months into the relationship.

But after two years of being apart, he realised he had made a mistake and asked me to be his girlfriend again. It didn’t help that about a few weeks after, we went to uni in different parts of the UK separated by a very expensive 4 hour plus train ride. To me, the gradual pacing of our relationship coupled with his maturity in handling all my ‘crisises’ allowed me to see him as someone very suitable for the long run (read: husband material). It also helped that despite the distance and only being able to meet up every 2-3 months, we very rarely had any fights or arguments. That to me proved that we were very much in sync with each other.”

East Meets West, and some chickens: The Wedding of David & Michele

The bride Michele says…

We like to joke and tell people we met on the internet, as that often gets a reaction. The truth is we met in London while working for a bank. The All Blacks from NZ drew us together. We wanted a truly traditional Chinese wedding, and since Dave reckons he is half Chinese, so only a quarter of him needs to juggle between Western and Eastern traditions. Considering that he is top notch in mahjong, can handle sambal petai, all of our Chinese delicacies, and my crazy Chinese cooking, he’s doing pretty well. We have yet to train him on the lovely durian, but I believe with time, he will be fully assimilated. Resistance is futile, my dear…

It was great to relive the moments as the photos made us realise how much of the day we did not see. It made us grateful for our friends and family.

The photographer Weiming says…

The first thought I had was… we have the same surname, how cool! The wedding was held in Seremban and Nilai, with guests from all over the world. It was full of emotions… with lots of laughter, hugs and kisses. David and Michele are extremely accommodating. I mean, David was even willing to take some portraits under the hot sun with his suit on. (By the way, it was photographed at 1pm under Malaysian sun) Family and friends were really involved in the wedding, and Michele’s gown was even designed by her cousin. What a personal touch!

The cinematic film below shows what an amazing day it was and how much fun we all had on that day. We love the personalised vows as well!

Heritage Wedding in Malacca: Dexter & Michelle

As I was growing up in Malacca, I always wondered who lived in this really grand, elaborate home along Heeren St. It is undoubtedly the nicest looking building on that street, and usually many tourists would stop by and take photos of the house. When we photographed the wedding of Dexter and Michelle, I was excited to hear that I would be entering it for the first time ever. It was Dexter’s ancestral home, and we had full access to all the floors! Naturally, as we were shooting in the front yard, tourists stopped to take photos!

Dexter and Michelle’s wedding was a 2 part event that started in KL and ended in Malacca. Where can I start about this couple… well, I first met them at the Westin wedding fair where they signed up for our photography and cinematic film service. It was an instant click – the feeling that you have bonded with someone even though you’ve only just met. They were humorous, ‘in-your-face’, fun, spontaneous… I guess part of it had to be the fact that Dexter is from Malacca…and you know what…Malaccans are a FUN and loud bunch! (Read: Grace is fun and loud too).

We created a fusion slideshow for them to show the next day at Equatorial hotel. Look out for the middle part of the slideshow where he strides in and lifts her off her feet!

Wedding of Zach & Linda

Zach and Linda first made an appearance on our blog a few months ago when we took their pre-wedding photos in KL. Well, this time round, they are back from Australia again… for their Chinese wedding banquet. Ben and Weiming were there to capture all the key moments of the day. So much fun and laughter at this wedding, even though I wasn’t there to witness it, I could see that everyone had heaps of fun, including the grandmothers!

Congratulations Zach and Linda! Wishing you many years of joyful wedded bliss!

Zach and Linda’s Story

I first saw Zach’s name on a sheet of paper on my boss’ desk, I suspected that he was the new guy who’d just been hired. Having been a star performer at work, I worried that this new colleague would be a rival. My first impression of him after he started work was that he felt like a little kid…..

We were eventually tasked to work together and our feelings for each other developed quickly in a short period of time. We discovered that we had attended the same kindergarden together, and that our secondary schools were situated opposite each other’s’ and that we’d attended the same college and eventually the same university in Canberra as well. I also recalled that I’d once been introduced to Zach while at University, but that I’d dismissed him because he had long hair! Finally, fate decided that it was time for us to meet at work, and we’ve been together ever since.

Zach is a very sweet boyfriend, he always buys me big bouquets of roses, writes me poems and he takes very good care of me. I feel very blessed to have him as my life partner.

Together, we love travelling and enjoy the occasional fine dining in Sydney with our friends. Although many find Canberra a boring city, we appreciate the clean fresh air in this well planned city as well as the freedom of driving on traffic jam-free roads. :)

Wedding Video Highlight: Ching Siang & Stephanie

They see each other as opposites, but with differences that naturally complement each other. Stephanie laughs a lot and is really expressive. Ching Siang on the other hand, claims to have lips that are way too small which means that he can’t laugh as loudly as Stephanie. He’s a perfectionist, a thinker… but… someone who is always late (which irritates Stephanie who’s a really punctual person). Good thing for Ching Siang – he was on time on his wedding day!

Their story began while they were in primary school… they were classmates for 6 years and she being the basketball team player… soon caught Ching Siang’s attention. He was an unknown geeky guy sitting in the corner in class (with big fat glasses too!), just noticing her from afar. Years later, they met again in Melbourne, and that’s when they began to get to know each other a lot better.

The proposal happened on top of a hot air balloon overlooking the city of Melbourne witnessed by a basketful of strangers. It was successful, because within a second of his proposal, she nodded enthusiastically!

Ching Siang and Stephanie, thank you for giving us the opportunity to record your story! :)
