Planning For Your Pre-Wedding Shoot

Your pre-wedding photoshoot should be just as important and meaningful as your wedding photoshoot. It’s more than just “pictures you put on display for your guests on your wedding day”. These photos will be cherished forever and will be a reminder of the true emotions and memories that you and your partner shared. With that said, here are the top few things you should take note of as you’re planning for your pre-wedding photoshoot.

1. The Best Time

As we know our Malaysian weather can be intense, so we would always recommend mornings for outdoor photoshoots. We don’t want sweaty shots now, do we? Besides that, the lighting from the morning sun gives an overall better look to the photos as there would be no harsh spots. Also, it is recommended to do it on a weekday to avoid crowds and people getting into your shots. So try to schedule a weekday early morning pre-wedding photoshoot with your photographer if you want the morning glow and a smoother session!

2. The Best Location

The location you pick should be based on your preference and budget. Thankfully we have a wide range of locations to choose from that are mostly free of charge. For example, parks, beaches, the city and more heritage places like Melaka and Penang. The only thing you need to arrange for is transportation. Parks are always a popular choice among couples because who doesn’t love nature? Plus, our parks are actually quite beautiful and easily accessible. But if you’re looking for a unique pre-wedding destination with chilly weather, may we recommend Resorts World Genting? Our partnership with them (ends in 30th June 2023) gives you exclusive access to the theme park before it opens. That way, we’ll have the whole theme park to ourselves! Imagine that.

Post-Wedding Portraits: Azin & Kasra

Azin & Kasra are from Iran but have family living in Malaysia. The planning for their post-wedding portraits took place remotely over WhatsApp calls, with voice messages in English and also translated into Persian through their relative living here. We felt really happy to meet them, and to bring them around our beautiful city of Kuala Lumpur. Though language sometimes hindered communication, eventually, we had a successful shoot thanks to body and sign language! This can be quite tough when you are trying to get natural expressions from the couple, but I think the photos turned out well, thanks to Jennifer’s direction.

Styled Modern & Minimalist Post-Wedding Shoot: Faisal & Aggie

Fill my heart with song, and let me sing for ever more; you are all I long for, all I worship and adore
― Frank Sinatra

The inspiration for the shoot came from the location itself, Glamz at Genting. As a new venue with interesting dome like structures and glamping facilities surrounded by scenic mountain views, we were excited to create this styled shoot after the contest with Stories.my & The Wedding Scoop ended. Together with Pretty Little Things, we came up with the idea of a modern, simple styled shoot with a tinge of boho. We wanted to combine glamour with the outdoors. Simplicity with a touch of rawness. The flowers were beautifully designed by Bloom2u. We especially love the bouquet with the unique protea cynaroides flower decorated with eucalyptus silver dollar, eucalyptus baby blue, silver leaves, eucalyptus tetragonia, eryngium, leucospermum and foliages. Pretty Little Things worked together with Bloom2u to come up with a complete styled look for the shoot.

The elegant wedding gown was provided by That White Dress and the look was made complete with hair & make up from SuyenPang Artistry. The end result was inspiring, and made our job as photographers and videographers easy! When we contacted the winning couple, Faisal and Aggie and got to know them better, we realised that they fit the whole theme perfectly. The both of them work in the creative industry, with Faisal owning his own video production company and Aggie as a copywriter in an advertising agency. Individually, they are uniquely different – Aggie is a fitness junkie (she is a part time boxing instructor!), a meticulous planner and is a bit more cautious in making decisions. Faisal, on the other hand, is more of a risk-taker (For example, Faisal rented a motorcycle in Bali with no licence and minimal experience, something Aggie wouldn’t do), has zero interest in fitness but willingly plays the role of Instagram cameraman to Aggie.

Together, they fit like a glove, despite coming from culturally different families. They have such a chill vibe about them, brought together by their love of music, cats, travel and all things creative.

After spending 11 years together, they eventually tied the knot in August 2018. So our shoot together was a pretty relaxing one for them, since they had just returned from their honeymoon in the Maldives!

Golf themed pre-wedding: Jonathan & Lyn Yen

Jonathan is a professional golfer, and it was over drinks that the both of them met. While Lyn Yen thought that he was a nice guy and easy to talk to, she didn’t have a clue about anything golf-related! But this encounter that brought them together became the start of many more encounters in the future.

Eventually, she learnt that he is a romantic at heart (a huge teddy bear), loves lame jokes, enjoys surprises though a terrible planner with the best intentions. He learnt that she complemented him in areas where he lacked (planning skills especially). It was a match that fit like a glove.

We had a great time during our simple pre-wedding shoot at TPC KL, a golf course that Jonathan frequents often. That day of the shoot, it was storming, and the rain just made all our shoes wet (even in the lobby). I love how this couple is so easy going – though I was worried about the unrelenting storm (like, it was dark skies everywhere with no sign of stopping), but Jon & Lyn had faith that the rain would stop, and after a while, it did! We managed to head out to the course for some photos afterward.

They were also so casual about how Jon’s face was two toned that day… he had just played at a tournament recently and half his face was tanned while the other half wasn’t! It was quite funny but it told for a great story and we didn’t edit out his half tanned face…

I am excited about their wedding this weekend! See you really soon!

Pre-Wedding: Jawad & Aneela

Jawad and Aneela’s parents have known each other since the two of them were children. Originally from Bangladesh, Jawad now lives in Malaysia with his family but Aneela still resides in Dhaka. Their marriage was arranged by their families…and the first time they met was at the airport when she visited Malaysia for the first time. Both have engineering degrees, but their interests varies as she is more into literature, art (she loves painting) and music whereas, he’s into coding, playing badminton, cricket or football. But they have something in common – the love of nature and the sea.

From the first time they met, Aneela felt as if there was a connection between them… she was drawn to the way he smiled and talked. Jawad’s quite a shy and courteous person, always lowering his gaze around her. So Aneela was never really quite sure of how he felt towards her. Till one day… she caught his magical, piercing eyes looking directly at her. That look he gave her remained ingrained in her mind till this day.

Those tiny feelings they had for each other grew steadily and finally, Jawad told Aneela that he wanted to marry her. We’re so pleased to be able to photograph their portraits in Malaysia when Aneela came to visit earlier this year. It had been raining every single day since she landed, but on the day of our shoot, the skies remained clear! What a gorgeous couple!
