Casual Fun: John & Praveena’s Pre-Wedding

Was her name Jaavaani, or Pravani, or something like that? John didn’t quite remember, after meeting Praveena at workk for the first time in Singapore. She was annoyed because he could not pronounce her name properly, plus the extroverted John was a little too loud for her liking. Finally, after a few weeks of calling the wrong name, he got it right.

20150904-PREWEDDING_JOHN_PRAVEENA-02Getting to know each other

Praveena: We worked really long hours and found common friends with those who had as little work-life balance as us. Our clique was called “Macarena Madness”, named after some incident where John had to do the Macarena for losing a challenge. Over the years, we’ve had many challenges (e.g. weight loss challenge, 6 pack challenge, KFC double down challenge). We trained for a marathon, had various drinking sessions and even dressed as corpse bride and groom for Halloween.

While I was getting fond of him, I realized that John might have feelings for me only after thinking about all the nice things he had done for me (e.g. making breakfast on my birthday, bringing me home when I’m drunk, defending me when other teased me, protected me from questionable strangers). I guess John slowly grew on me.

John: Working long hours, we got to talk a lot. We worked through nights and went for breakfast together. Not realizing it myself, I started doing things that favor her and sharing secrets with her, so much so that the colleague behind me asked me if there was something on between us. Not good at lying and taken by surprise, I didn’t have an answer and that was when I realized that there was probably something going on. I realized I enjoyed making her smile!

20150904-PREWEDDING_JOHN_PRAVEENA-01Dating phase

Praveena: John asked me to be his girlfriend in true Love Actually style – with the cue cards – because he knew I liked that movie. After the initial anxiety of telling our friends and family (who thankfully were supportive), it was pretty much the same usual things we did after. It was just nice to know that John was always there to have my back.

John: There was a phase when I thought she liked another guy and she thought I liked another girl. But once I realized we were actually talking about each other (Praveena kinda gave me a big hint when she was drunk), I was overjoyed and went on to text her about it the next day. She was feeling embarrassed for a moment cause she was still thinking the girl I liked was someone else. But I told her all was well and hinted her that she was the one I was talking about. Playful me wanted to let her feel embarrassed a while longer and so hinted her to let her realize it herself. xD

Then we had our first date and we got together. Since we already got to know each other in office and spent maybe one or two months thinking that each other liked someone else, we didn’t really have a dating phase of knowing each other more to ascertain if we like each other, but more of went on to the dating phase of knowing each other more.

Being in the same line and having similar mindset about how things should and should not be done at work, we quickly realized we are a great match! =p We were excited to move on to the next phase of the relationship!

Rustic Pre-Wedding shoot with a VW Kombi: Eu Jin & Samantha

Her idea of a perfect day would be to cuddle in on a rainy day with a good book and a cup of latte. Ideally, next to the beach with the sound of waves breaking softly in the distance. His idea of a perfect day would be an early morning cappuccino followed by a good game of golf. And then enjoying a Rambo or Indiana Jones movie while dreaming of traveling to Africa one day and thinking of how to adopt a white tiger as a pet.

Together, they love to daydream about the future and talk about how to train their future white tiger pet. This is probably done over a Zinger burger meal at KFC! When they are not watching the sports channel on Astro, they are probably traveling the world seeing as much as they possibly can!

What a cute couple Eu Jin and Samatha are. Jamie and I truly enjoyed photographing their pre-wedding shots, and I am sure Chi Yin enjoyed herself too while shooting the behind the scenes video that you can see here. On the day of the shoot, it was raining at Sekeping Tenggiri and we weren’t sure if it would be raining too at UPM. But we took the risk and it was a perfect day which ended in a gorgeous sunset.

Smurfette, our resident VW kombi made an appearance too at the shoot! I am glad that I managed to drive it without any problems! Was worried about driving this manual car that has absolutely ZERO power steering. But all was good, and we had an awesome time.

Eu Jin and Sam, can’t wait for the wedding!

Love is in the Air: Aaron & Chrystin’s pre-wedding

Photographer: Grace, assisted by Weiming
Location: UPM, Bangi
Make up: G Fauziah Ismail
Production Design: Kenneth Fong & Jackee Chong from Squarefeet Studio

Aaron & Chrystin’s pre-wedding photo session was so well thought out and detailed, they immediately made it to my ‘Top 5 most prepared bride & groom’ list (next to Jamie & Ann, Alvin & MelissaKenny & PC and Kevin & Katherine – to be blogged after their wedding). I was really amused when Chrystin emailed me a detailed list of what props she would bring, the colour theme of the shoot (CMYK), and other important details like Chrystin’s right side of the face look better sometimes. I hope you’re not embarrassed about this, Chrystin, but I do think it’s great that the both of you are super detailed and communicate these things to me.

Both Aaron & Chrystin work in the creative line (Aaron is a freelance graphic designer with his own t-shirt brand Individium, whereas Chrystin is a multimedia executive). I got to know the both of them some time back when we were all involved in a media conference called Charge Up, organized by LiveWire Media. Aaron & Chrystin are really talented individuals, and it wasn’t a surprise that they planned their pre-wedding shoot to be so graphically interesting. Everything was done with excellence in mind, and it showed in the end. But of course, it couldn’t have been done without the help of their good friends Jackee Chong & Kenneth Fong (a behind the scenes video will be posted soon!).

But not yet… not till January 2011 when they vow to be true to each other in good times or in bad, in sickness and in health. The title of this post was taken from their wedding website, designed beautifully to look like the New York Times report. I love it when I see websites like these because it shows how creative the couple is and how much they care about the little details that go into their wedding day.

And so it was natural that during the pre-wedding session with Jack and Sze Hwa, there were lots of yummy details that went into the shoot. Hwa said she wanted a picnic theme… and so she brought an amazing array of props to the shoot! The picnic basket was even prepared and sewn by Jack’s mother! Talk about dedication.

Jack & Hwa have both known each other since secondary school but they were just acquaintances back then. In school, she thought he was a bit of a geek and he thought she was just another (annoying) junior in his school!

This is their story…

Well…. Years went by and we lost contact.  She went to Ireland to continue her studies and he on the other hand, left for Australia.  However, during one of our summer holidays back in June 2003, we bumped into each other while we were dining with our parents in Overseas Restaurant, PJ! That day changed everything! We started to keep in touch and this continued on even when she was back in Ireland and he, in Australia! We talked on the phone EVERYDAY and would wake each other every morning (possible then due to different time zones!).  So this continued on for 7 years.  Yes, we have been doing the much dreaded long-distance relationship for that long.  This has improved tremendously since she moved to Singapore ‘coz at least we now were at the same time zone.

We guess the thing that kept us both together for so long despite the distance was that we have always been able to talk about everything and anything and our passion for travelling (here, there and everywhere!), food (you have to see our collection of food pictures) and Moleskines =) !

Pre-Wedding: Derrick & Wan Leng

Photographer: Grace
Make up & hair: Sharon from Wedding Isle
Bridal Gown: Pretty in White
Evening Gown: Red Lantern Studio
Location: Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

Love, like wine, should get better with age. It should be savoured bit by bit and with every sip, cherished.

Even though Wan Leng has been together with Derrick for almost a decade, just like aged wine, their love tastes sweeter and better than ever. When she first met him, she thought that he was kind of cute; if there was Facebook back then, she would have clicked “LIKE” immediately. After Wan Leng’s first encounter with Derrick, she could not stop thinking about him… and now, a decade later, she still can’t stop thinking about him!

The feeling was mutual, because when Derrick first saw Wan Leng, he thought that she was attractive beyond words yet she had this aura of mystery that made him want to know her more. They met at a social function and since then their friendship blossomed through different modes of communication.

Derrick: “Usually my first impressions of a person are spot on, and my first impression of her was that she had a special inner & outer beauty bottled into one. Although the first impression counts for something, I believe that lasting impression is above all, and I hope to give her the best lasting impression a man could ever give.”

Wan Leng: “Sometimes I still can’t believe that I ended up with him and *gasp* I’m getting married to him! :) And I’m very excited!”

I’m excited for the both of you too!
