Janeen recently graduated with a doctorate and wanted to commemorate her achievement with a family photo shoot. We had the photo session at her parents’ lovely garden in Bukit Jalil and had her nephews and in-laws join in too. We did two kinds of shots: a series with Janeen in her graduation gown and then a series of casual group shots and individual portraits. Janeen’s nephew also graduated – from kindergarten! So it was a double celebration. :)
1. Consider your location and backdrop
If your photoshoot coincides with an event such as a birthday party or a dinner, think about how the location will look like: What colour will the wall or backdrop be where your group will be standing? Here’s a good rule of thumb you can follow:
- Plain background – You can wear either plain or bright colours, and outfits with more patterns. However not everyone should be wearing prints or else the patterns might clash, making overall photo look too messy.
- Busy background – It’s best to wear outfits with plain colours (no patterns) that complement the background. Eg. A green leafy background can go with full white outfits or white and khaki colours.
Chinese New Year is coming up and that is the best time to get together for a large family portrait. We’ve done so many of these large groups in the past and absolutely love seeing multiple generations coming together for a common purpose. Recently, we also photographed a family of 4 generations where the great-grandparents were 97 and 100 years of age respectively! Now that’s a reason for celebration!
We especially love taking photos at the homes of our clients. This is really meaningful because there’s a lot of memories attached to these homes. Even though some of our clients complain about the houses being messy, that is fine! We’ll always find a corner to photograph. The mess can sometimes trigger a memory too. However, if your family home is in a town far away from KL, you can also do a portrait session in our studio. We have accommodated up to 26 adults in our space in the past!
Contact us for a portrait session for this Chinese New Year. You’ll never regret the effort you went through to make this session happen.
Lyn wanted images that are natural, engaging and candid for her family photos. She mentioned to us that her daughter would look unnatural when posing for the camera, so she was hoping that we could catch her playful nature at the park. Well, good news is that children do look their best when they are having fun! We try to make each family session as fun as possible. We encourage you to think of games and activities to do during a photo session so that you come prepared.
Here’s some of our favourites during this session. And I think Lyn’s daughter looks natural even in the posed shots, don’t you think?
