Wedding at Hatten Hotel, Malacca: Weng Yue & Hui Yen

People say the secret to a long life is laughter… and the secret to a long-lasting relationship is laughing together. We’re pretty sure this will be true for Weng Yue and Hui Yen!

They are like two peas in a pod that fit together so cozily. Each different in their own ways but yet sharing a solid and grounded relationship built on trust. They liken their relationship to a blue-chip stock… with very little fluctuations and steady growth! That shows just how down-to-earth they both are.

They met in university in Malacca and maintained a long-distance relationship for a number of years after their studies before Hui Yen relocated to Singapore to be with Weng Yue. They have not looked back since. Life together is comfortable, with very few “high volume” moments. They are self-proclaimed non-conformists (but not intentionally!) and that is part of what keeps their comfortable life exciting, we suspect.

The wedding was held in the beautiful town of Malacca, where Weng Yue hails from. His mum is Nyonya so there were lots of Nyonya elements incorporated in the wedding. This easy-going couple made the team feel very much at home with them and were game to pose even under the hot sun with no complaints. Thank you Weng Yue and Hui Yen, for your kind hospitality in Malacca. We wish you both a lifetime of fun, happiness and adventure in your marriage!

Grand Red & Black Themed Wedding: Colin & Yee Xing, Hatten Hotel

lt was the first ever wedding at the new Hatten Hotel in Malacca. For weeks, everyone rushed to get the fittings and furnishings completed on time for the wedding of Colin and Yee Xing. There was no doubt about it, the wedding dinner had to go on, for this was no ordinary couple. Colin is the son of Hatten Group CEO Datuk Eric Tan.

It must have been a stressful and challenging time for everyone but amazingly, everything came together and the hotel opened its doors for the first time to wedding guests in March.

Some of you might remember Colin and Yee Xing’s beautiful poolside ceremony at Capella, Sentosa, Singapore some time back.  A week before the wedding dinner in Malacca, Colin and Yee Xing had their actual wedding day celebration in Singapore.

Actually, I was rather unprepared at the scale of this event. I was so amazed when I walked in that evening to see lorry-loads of decorations filling the hallway leading to the ballroom. The amount of detail that went into this wedding was amazing. Enya of Storybook did a superb job in decorating the cocktail and ballroom area. When I entered the ballroom, I instantly fell in love with the red and black theme. Stunning!

What was challenging for Weiming and myself as we photographed this wedding was the fact that we had to cover 2 different dinners, over 2 consecutive days, with the same setting and decorations but different guests. On the 2nd day, the Chief Minister and Governor of Malacca (TYT) was on the guest list too! We had to look at things differently and try to approach the event with a new set of eyes for the 2nd day.

So, be prepared for a barrage of images, especially details!

Garden wedding at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang, Penang: Greta & Mohit (part2)

Garden Ceremony & Dinner Reception: Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort, Penang, Malaysia
Photographers: Grace & Johan
Videographer: Wedding Story

View part 1 of the wedding.

While the rest of the guests were getting ready for the dinner reception, the bridal party together with Mo and Greta were out on the beach having some fun!

Johan took this shot below while I was shooting from another angle…

Mo wanted a shot of Greta in her veil, so we quickly hooked it on, and got this shot… I love the detail on her veil!

A lot of things in this wedding are themed red. Like the tables and chairs in this ballroom.

And so, it only made sense to take the ring shots against something red!

The cake at the dinner reception varies in colour depending on the lighting at that time.

I can’t help photographing kids. They have this look that demands to be photographed!

Find the official photographer. Hehe…

Not only were the speeches good, the dancing was pretty awesome too!

Johan took this cool dancing shot (below) with off camera flash. It was really dark while the dancing was happening, so we utilized flash, video light, and high ISO on the cameras! Thank God for 6400 ISO setting on my 5D Mark2. :)

I had a great time at your wedding, Mo & Greta. Thanks for your confidence in my team even though you only met me on your wedding day for the first time! Wishing you years and years of happiness together!

A Sikh Wedding Experience

As promised, more photos from the Sikh wedding shoot. From 3000 photos shot over 3 days, it’s really hard to pick only a handful to showcase on the blog. So we’ve created a slideshow for you to view, which is right at the bottom of this post. I love this shot of Raj & Charan, there’s so much drama to it.

Amy + Stu, The Andaman, Langkawi, Part 2

After the short and sweet ceremony, we took some portraits on the beach. Having sunset shots are great, but timing is so crucial! We only had about 15-20 minutes of light before it quickly faded away.

I love umbrellas. I can now safely say that I have a collection of wedding + umbrella photos. Oh, and I also love veils, especially long ones.

I love the blue theme for the wedding deco, and how it’s so tastefully done! Absolutely love the leaves with the names written on it. Other plus points: Yummy chocs in jars, ready for guests to pick!
