Noel & Celine – Peranakan Wedding Shoot in Melaka

This bridal photo session was organised as a styled shoot by the Association of Wedding Professionals (AWP). It was meaningful for me, because Melaka is my hometown, and I even took my own bridal portraits at the Persatuan Peranakan Cina Melaka 17 years ago. The Peranakan culture is slowly dying, so this is my tribute towards preserving heritage and encouraging couples to go back to their roots for their bridal portraits. It would be even more meaningful if couples could consider taking portraits at their family or ancestral home. Contact us if you’d like to book a portrait session!

Chinese Peranakan Wedding: Mike & Sarah

Mike and Sarah’s wedding felt like a massive reunion of old friends. That usually happens when the bride and groom have known each other since childhood. Sarah’s earliest memory of Mike was in Sunday School. “He’d be the noisiest boy in the hall and be picked out instantly because of his vibrant personality. Till today – Mike has that extrovert personality!” she tells us. We could tell Mike certainly loves being around people and has a good sense of humour. As for Sarah, she expresses herself through writing, singing, and describes herself as an introvert (although Mike disagrees with that last one). Over many years of friendship which eventually blossomed into a relationship, both their best qualities rubbed off on each other – making them a perfect team. The story of how they first met and grew together is really the stuff of a romance novel.

Baba Nyonya Styled Shoot with Wedding Scoop & Moments

As a Nyonya girl, born and bred in Malacca, I was really quite excited when Evelyn of Moments shared about the idea of doing a Peranakan Theme Styled Shoot with The Wedding Scoop. It is so uniquely Malaysian in terms of identity. I love how the blend of modern and traditional worked well together with bold colours. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to collaborate on this project. We contributed towards the behind the scenes video as shown below. Have a look at the list of talented vendors below who were involved in the project.

The Lego & Travel Themed Wedding of Derek & Rachel

If you are not a Lego fan, you’ll definitely be one after you see the images from this wedding! I love how Derek and Rachel personalised their love story through little Lego sets. Of course, Derek painstakingly (or should I say, happily?) assembled all the pieces together for the wedding. Everything from the corsages to the ring pillow, to the decorations at the dinner reception… everything had bits of Lego thrown in. Add to that, an element of travel – one of Rachel’s favourite activity… and there you have it… a Lego and Travel themed wedding. Oh, did I mention that a few super heroes made their appearance at the wedding too?

20140614_WEDDING_DEREK_RACHEL_0215Their Love Story (as written by Derek)

We first met years ago as kids who attended the same church with our families (Trinity Methodist Church PJ) and participated in the same youth fellowship and activities. It was so long ago that we can’t really remember the exact time we both first met, but our earliest memory of interacting with each other is when we attended a camping trip in Kuala Selangor in 2000.

20140614_WEDDING_DEREK_RACHEL_0627It was there that I first had a crush on her, even with her nerdy glasses and Chinese school haircut. Her parents had a rule at the time that she could not have a boyfriend until she turned 18; which was fine by me since I only had to wait 6 years (*note the sarcasm). But in hindsight that was a blessing in disguise since I would have been too scared to ask her out properly anyway (in my defence, I was really young and awkward around girls!) and it allowed us to get to know each other as friends first. So over the next few years, we grew closer as friends, but we both knew there was a mutual attraction that we weren’t allowed to act upon so there was never anything “official”.

Stephen & Andrea: Portraits & A Wedding at Rasa Sayang Resort, Penang

Since most of our clients live overseas, it’s common for us to only meet the day before the wedding or on the wedding day itself. Sometimes, you don’t really know if you can jive with a client until you actually speak to them face to face. With Stephen (also known as Steve) and Andrea, we clicked the moment Mark and I met them for the first time that morning in E&O Hotel, Penang. They had dedicated the whole morning for portraits around Penang island which was an awesome idea to me! It was a pretty relaxing day as they had already said their vows in Australia before the Penang wedding.

Stephen and Andrea met in very exciting circumstances, at an accounting course in the University of Melbourne! After getting to know each other as friends, they took the plunge and started dating, and the rest as they say, is history. Having been together for 9 years before getting married, they took their time…but probably also because they were distracted with everything else.

Their love of food connected them together and the joy of trying new places and cooking delicious meals in the kitchen became a passion for the both of them. (seems like a typically Malaysian thing to do to me!) They also love traveling and make it a point to have a holiday at least once a year. So far, they have made their way through Spain, Morocco, Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong, Hawaii, France, Thailand, with more to come. They are proud parents of a not-so-little cat called Chester who rules their house and often thinks he’s a dog child. He shows them affection by cuddling on their laps and curling up around their heads when they sleep. Anyone who loves food, traveling, and cats is definitely a friend of mine! :)
