Alvin & Melissa’s Zany & Fun Pre-wedding

Photographer: Grace
Hair & Make up: Charlie from Michelle Touche team
Wedding Gown & Cheongsam: Divine Couture
Groom’s suit: Granoff
Shoes: Stefano & Mario limited, Christian Louboutin
Location: Carcosa Sri Negara

I find it really amusing when a bride & groom can look super glamorous like this one moment…

And absolutely zany and crazy the next moment!

Fun, laughter and silly ideas. That totally describes the kind of shoot we had for Alvin & Melissa’s pre-wedding. Add to that equation a vintage Morris Minor that belongs to Alvin’s mom, lots of love and it becomes an amazing shoot!

It’s not very surprising that Alvin and Melissa came up with these creative ideas as they are both extremely talented and creative people. Melissa works in an advertising agency, and she even gave me a printed brief of what she wanted for her pre-wedding photography session! On the day of our shoot, I was tickled when I saw this sign outside their room door…

So sweet! Aaw, I think I melted into nothingness then. :) Alvin and Melissa even prepared chocolates for me! How thoughtful!

It’s been 5 years already!

It was the morning of our 5th anniversary and I awoke violently only to realise it was still early in the morning. The whispers of us saying “I do” from 12 August 2006 were brought back to mind, while I, still in bed, planned our anniversary celebration.

“Gas stove, frying pan, spatula, sleeping bag, tent, box of tissue” (and lots more), were added to my iPhone shopping list, while Grace continued to breathe heavily, enjoying her slumber. I had yet to tell her what we would be doing to celebrate our 5th year together but intended to keep it a secret till the last possible moment.

That evening, we left the office a couple of hours earlier, rushed home, and started to pack the car with the list of items I had meticulously detailed on my phone. It was then that I told Grace, “We’re going camping!” and like the perfect adventurous wife, she was enthused to go, instead of uttering a dreaded, “WHAT? But it’s hot… there will be mosquitoes”.

Reversing out of the driveway, we headed to the modern day market – Carrefour, to get our meats for dinner and some snacks, then proceeded to drive to Bagan Lalang beach at Sepang, a mere few minutes away from the new Golden Palm Tree Resort. Unfortunately, it was already rather dark by the time we arrived. We chugged down the beach with our belongings, under a slight drizzle and quickly pitched the tent with only a torch to guide and an umbrella for shelter.

Thankfully, my years of service at Outward Bound School came to good use, and before long, we were dry, safe and warm in the tent. We began with an entree of sushi, since it was still too wet to cook outside. An hour later, the rain subsided and our portable gas stove was started – we then cooked 2 slabs of lamb beneath the stars while listening to the calming sound of waves.

Pre-wedding: Adrian & Phoebe

Photographer: Grace
Hair & Make up: Rachel Chun

Distance makes the heart grow fonder. I am always amazed at couples whose relationships stand the test of time. Traveling between Australia and Malaysia, while contributing to the airline industry economically, both Adrian & Phoebe have learnt that patience is definitely a virtue. Recently, Phoebe flew back to Malaysia for a short holiday, and they decided to contact me for a casual portrait session. In accordance with the long distance relationship and travel theme, they had an idea to do the shoot at KLIA. But I was a little concerned that we would be chased away by security guards (I can just picture the internet news… Photographer detained for questioning after trying to run away from security at KLIA or something silly like that).

Maybe one day I’ll be adventurous enough to try it out.

In the end, Adrian, Phoebe, Diane (who was assisting me) and I ended up at a park in PJ. Two hours spent together, but I felt that we have known each other for years.

The Wedding of Arif & Natassha

Photographers: Grace & Johan (nikah & dinner reception), Johan & Weiming (luncheon)
Nikah & Dinner Reception Location: Holiday Villa, Subang
Luncheon: Felda Villa, KL
Cake: Truly Scrumptious

While thousands of Malaysians took to the streets of KL on the 9th of July 2011 supporting the Bersih 2.0 cause, a group of 100+ people were out for a different purpose – to celebrate the wedding of Arif & Natassha. A few days before the wedding, Johan and I were concerned about the road blocks and not being able to reach the wedding venue on time. Truly it was a blessing that Arif and Natassha’s wedding was held at Holiday Inn, Subang… relatively far away from the events in KL city. I read in the newspaper the next day that some weddings had to be called off due to the massive road blocks.

I am sure Arif and Natassha’s family breathed a sigh of relief when the Coriander Garden hall was packed with their friends and family who were there to witness the akad nikah. No road block was going to stop them from celebrating this joyous occasion!

Arif & Natassha, the wedding was beautiful… and I am so honoured to be able to capture the strong relationship you have with your family members at your wedding.
